I hear ya, Jim. A friend had the first CD when it came out, and I listened to it quite a bit. The only CD I have by them is Issues, and I dig that one a lot, it's more rock oriented.
I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.

              Queensryche - Operation: Mindcrime

The dynamics of the guitars on it are fantastic, the harmonies are great, and the solo's are really well written/played

pink floyd - the wall....a long album with a lot of variety and emotions. it really helped with my song writing and helped me realize metal is NOT the be-all-end-all of music and that metal is not the only way to be "heavy"
                GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

                and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

Man, great choices guys. For myself I'll add Loudness - Soldier of Fortune. Especially the solo in "Lost Without Your Love".

                    Thin Lizzy - Black Rose
                    Megadeth - Countdown to Extinction

Since The Wall and VH I have been taken, I'll opt for the one guy that made blues cool to me (then, blues was all I wanted to play for years)... Robbin Ford, Talk to your daughter.

Righteous tone and tasty licks... check it out and become one with the claw.

(Robbin links his pinky and ring finger together, calls it "the claw", but he gets some very Jeff Healey bends with that... puts goosebumps on my arms)

"Wow,... that was some of the hardest rockin ever. Hardest to listen too."
                      --floydkramer

                        Anthrax - Among The Living
                        Metallica - Master Of Puppets

Although... Nothing gets me inspired like Sikth - Death Of A Dead Day

                          hawkwind...levitation

huw lloyd langton at his best, haunting melodic soloing ( a perfect example of less is more)

                          marillion...misplaced childhood

steve rothery (the poor man's steve hacket) nice smooth soloing that stands the test of time.

judas priest....defenders of the faith, pain killer

glen and ken showing how it should be done.

                          ozzy...no more tears

                          imo zaks best work.
yeah it was me, you got a problem with that?

                            Can't believe no one's mentioned:

                            Yngwie Malmsteen - Odyssey, yet
You took too much, man. Too much. Too much.

I did consider and weigh the matter and was compelled to drink motor oil instead.
Peace, Love and Happieness and all that stuff...

I personally do not care how it was built as long as it is a good playing/sounding instrument.

Yes, there's a bee in the pudding.

You mean you don't like it?

I love it, when I'm in the mood for shred, it's usually the first album to get played. I've been jamming to Faster Than The Speed Of Light for days now.

That entire album is just a giant lick library. Who needs instructional dvd's and lessons when you can just learn from this?
