  • BestPractice - Learning Tool (free download)

Check this free software out, it's a great learning tool! I’ve been using this software for about a year now and I find it invaluable.

BestPractice, an open-source audio time-stretching tool for Windows

Here is a bit of info directly from the site:

BestPractice is a musician's practice tool, to slow down or speed up music, either from an MP3 file or directly from a CD. Ordinarily the sound is distorted when slowed down our sped up - you get the effect like when playing a 33 rpm record on 45 rpm speed (remember the Chipmunks?). BestPractice tries to correct this, so you can slow down and speed up music, while keeping the original pitch. It is also possible to change the pitch of the music without affecting its tempo. Play along with for instance Eb tuned guitars without retuning your own, or slow down that high-speed guitar solo on a CD that you like to learn.

Great stuff, glad you like it. It has helped me immensely, so I thought I'd best share it with as many fellow axe slingers as possible.

It had a few bugs when I started to use it, but they've got it working pretty darn good now, at least it runs well on my machine.

Good Luck! I hope it works for ya!

That program is so fun You can turn absolutely anything into a techno song. I find it works pretty well with Rob Halford because it doesn't screw his voice up as much as others.

You can turn Breaking the Law into a mainstream punk song.:ROTF:

Edit: Nevermore just doesn't work in E Standard. Warrel sounds like a girl!

Windows Media Player doesn't alter PITCH from what I know about it. However, I used to have a great plugin for it called Chronotron which doesn't seem to work on my laptop's WMP11. Dunno if it's my laptop or the new WMP11 that won't run the Chronotron plugin. But damn, it's really enjoyable to give standard-tuned 80s songs even more of an 80s flair by knocking down the pitch a half step to E-flat.

Not a problem. I downloaded the wrong one first. The other file is for programmers who want to work on it.
