    I don't know what's more incredible.

The fact that someone can own the trademark to sell an unrelated product - university holds the license for a guitar name, the guitar which obviously is not a pig and whose back is imitating a razor? That's crazy.

I mean Apple records couldn't even successfully take the Apple Computer trademark when Apple went into to the computer industry???

The second crazy thing is that "San Dimas Guitars" can't be owned either? San Dimas is is a city.
Will they prevent the local pizza joint from Chicago style Pizza because the local hairdresser is called "Chicago Style"?

Best to Dean, but he should take his old design and put a decent headstock on them for starters. I could deal with an ML with a hockeystick head, or a cadillac with a Les Paul HS.

Not gonna happen. Chicago Style Pizza is a phenomenon unto itself. Just like Italian Beef.

Now on to the topic... It's pretty sad that this is happening, but what do these guys think is going to happen? You spend x amount of years building your brand and then you sell it to the highest bidder then boom, you don't call the shots anymore. I applaud Dean Z for hanging in there a lot longer than the others did.

Waitaminnit - University of Arkansas sued Dean Guitars AND WON over the "Razorback" name?

How in the fuck do you even trademark the generic term given to wild animals!?

What dipshit judge ruled in favor of the school? If he was a Razorbacks fan, then his decision is highly illegal because it violates the impartiality laws.

Ok, whoever's planning the next Columbine/V-Tech, do it at the UofA.

A bit over the top, don't you think? This is stupid greed, nothing to call out for the slaughter of innocents over.

FYI - here's an article on the lawsuit. http://www.nwanews.com/adg/News/224980/

Not sure if the actual razorback hog of the animal kingdom has to pay royalties to UofA, but I'll look on the internet for that article as well.

Yeah I know, it sounds awful, but really, the Razorback thing is just absolutely retarded.

I agree fully. But to quote "Otter" from Animal House "I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part. "

Ok, I looked this up, and I'm simply astounded. Apparently, you can register a "word mark", just like a "trade mark".

So, somehow, against all sensibility, a colloquial term used to describe the general appearance of an animal is a wholly owned product of the University Of Arkansas.

However, Texas - Dimebag's home state - has the largest concentration of razorbacks, not Arkansas.

I think I'll register the word marks "guitar", "musical", and "instrument".

I'll be rich in a week.

Or maybe I'll register "University" and "Arkansas". That should be fun.

I think it would be more fun someone just "pants" the Dean in the name of Dean.

Then again, after reading the article I posted, it doesn't seem to be all that bad...
The settlement requires the defendants to continue marketing high-quality products that aren’t obscene or defamatory, according to the settlement agreement.

It also gives the companies exclusive license to use the Razorback mark on goods like Tshirts, caps and jackets, in conjunction with two of the words, “Dimebag,” “ Darrell” and “Abbott.” The settlement requires the companies to pay UA a $ 50 annual licensing fee.

so they can only use the word razorback in conjunction with the words dimebag darrell and abott and they have to pay 50 dollars. Lol what a fucking waste of time...

Also whats funny is that dean must now only produce high quality products that aren't obscene or defamatory. Hard times ahead for dean then...
