Slayer. I don't like Pantera very much. Slayer I like quite a bit.

Slayer made Reign In Blood which fucking blows away anything Pantera ever done. They also did South Of Heaven and Seasons in the Abyss which are more consistent than any Pantera album.
Pantera had some great stuff, but much of their albums were filled with shit filler songs.I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.

Let's take a look see, hmm... how about starting at the beginning? Both band's first albums from 1983 ...
Pantera's offering :
Let's take a look at the songs...
- Ride My Rocket
- I'll Be Alright
- Tell Me If You Want It
- Latest Lover
- Biggest Part of Me
- Metal Magic
- Widowmaker
- Nothin' On (But the Radio)
- Sad Lover
- Rock Out
"Ride My Rocket" heh...
Now Slayer's offering (to Satan) :
Looks cool, but how about the songs?
1. Evil Has No Boundaries
2. The Antichrist
3. Die by the Sword
4. Fight Till Death
5. Metal Storm/Face the Slayer
6. Black Magic
7. Tormentor
8. The Final Command
9. Crionics
10. Show No Mercy
Wow, no "Tell Me If You Want It" or "Sad Lover" here!
The native Texan inside has a hard time accepting it, even though I've seen Pantera 11 times, that in fact they sold out in a reverse fashion. They admit to it of course, but I still think it's sad in a way.
Slayer have always been Slayer, and thank the devil for that. I hope they never ever change.
I did see 2 cab drivers get into a knock down fist fight when I got off the train one day, and was listening to Pantera on my MP3 player, funny thing was that the music synced up to the punches, it was quite amusing...
So in conclusion :
(newer) Pantera - The soundtrack to an ass-beating.
Slayer - Music to stab your Grandma by.
Victory in this contest can only go to Slayer.

Evol,
Good post man.
I was thinking as I walked to work listening to Reign In Blood. I think it might be a generation thing.
I was just entering teen years when Show No Mercy came out. We thought it was the coolest album ever. So I was on board ever since I heard them on Metal Massacre III.
If I was entering teenage years in the late 80's-early 90's I might lean more to Pantera. Since Show No Mercy would be almost 10 years gone I might look at Slayer as a joke/gimmick band. And Pantera did kick a whole hell of alot of ass.
So maybe it's an Older vs. Younger thing.
A lot of young people I talk to today don't think The Exorcist is scary.
That movie still scares the shit out of me.I'm angry because you're stupid

The first record with Phil "Power Metal" was pretty much Cowboys From Hell. I really fail to see how you can "sell out" when you do the opposite of what's making money and on the radio.
There is no denying that Pantera as a band, is beyond musically superior to anything Slayer could ever fathom.Originally posted by horns666The only thing I choke during sex is, my chicken..especially when I wanna glaze my wife's buns.

Slayer wrote the RIB album.
NOTHING Pantera have ever done compares.
Even their first and second albums, which are clearly their best by fuckin miles, were half filler.
Every other album they did was about two thirds filler.
