You mean this tough guy :
????
Wish I could find my pic of him in the Skid Row T-shirt and wearing bracelets! I'll look for it later, it's quite amusing.
The first record with Phil "Power Metal" was pretty much Cowboys From Hell. I really fail to see how you can "sell out" when you do the opposite of what's making money and on the radio.
Of course like I said Slayer has always been Slayer, so there ya go.
There is no denying that Pantera as a band, is beyond musically superior to anything Slayer could ever fathom.

I choose Pantera if I have to choose....Dime makes that much of a difference to me.
However, the two are nothing alike, so comparison? Slayer were unique, but, Pantera were equally as unique. Pantera carried the torch while others faded into obscurity or even went the way of pop like the 2 Craptallica albums of the era as an attempt to remain relevant in a shitty period for music in general. I mean WTF? I know Slayer wrote some unmistakably legendary albums, but Far Beyond Driven was released at #1 in the USA which just had the industry sitting around scratching their heads wonderring how this possibly could have happenned with the way they had FORCED the industry to be headed...... Food for thought.Transitioning from Retired Musician from cover bands to a Full time vocalist/frontman/guitarist in an original and covers band....it's been a while and this should get NASTY!

[QUOTE=audiophile;1128286]Pantera FTW
by a significantly wide margin
Awards for those curious/interested.
How many records a band sells does NOT equal them being superior. The reason? Most people are IDIOTS. Therefore, most of those records were sold to IDIOTS. It's just statistics, dude.THIS SPACE FOR RENT

Kenny G. has sold more albums than Bob Dylan.
Food for thought.
And people say Pantera "carried the torch" in the 90's. While I can understand what they are saying, Slayer carried the torch too. They didn't change at all in the 90's. So that arguement goes both ways.I'm angry because you're stupid

I've said since I was a kid that you can't sell-out with a name like Slayer. It's true.
Pantera might have rallied the troops but where I was, the troops were already rallied and getting a bit pissed. Course we were listening to both Pantera and Slayer.I'm angry because you're stupid

And comparing by sales is only a partial aspect anyways.
Must see each for their own.
Each group is vastly different anyways, just like Kenny G and Dylan.
but still lol...
Pantera FTW.

In 1995, a thirteen year old in suburban newcastle picked up a blue covered disc his old man bought having seen it cheap in a hockshop and recognising it from a guitar magazine review. 'Kids might like it' he thought. Said rockin' thirteen year old took out nirvana/soundgarden/aic cd and put in far beyond driven. And was far beyond driven!! Seen them in '96 when I was 14 (soon 15). What a fuckin band man!
Slayer are a massive part of my teendom also. Reign in blood was in constant loop in my mates car, he'd be listening to it three times a day minimum. I loved seasons a heap too, and when my sis moved to london she picked up a seasons tour shirt for me from some shop and I wore holes in it.
And who can forget playing the timely God Hates Us All before its release on 9/11/2001. Which was actually 11/9/2001 here.
Basically, metal rules, I love em both! You can like em both, I sure as fuck do! But Dime's my boy, he taught me how to shred and not careLast edited by bibz; 07-24-2008, 10:48 PM.
