In this thread, and when threads like this come up, they follow a similar pattern of each side falling into defense of their beliefs as they relate to the topic.

The fact that folks who are anti-gun always cry bullshit on the idea of taking out the attacker is irritating. They think that because THEY would run, EVERYBODY would. That's just not so, if someone was equipped to deal with the killer.

The anti-gun folks also always assume that gu8n owners are lusting for blood and waiting for the opportunity to kill, and that is insulting as hell.

Realizing that the world is dangerous, and choosing to have a means of defending yourself, does not mean that you are a bloodthirsty redneck. But that is always the way gun owners are portrayed by those who are against guns. That shit gets old.

As for the slur, it really was at Ted. Now if someone identifies with Ted in my generalization about his personality, that's up to them. I've stopped a guy from date raping a girl, and I've shot a rattlesnake so it wouldn't bite a hysterical girl who couldn't be made to move away from it in a safe way. I've had to step in to stop homeless guys from strongarm "panhandling" young moms out with their kids near my shop on Pico Blvd. and in the Third Street Promenade, more times than I can count.

The rattlesnake was the only case where I had a gun to use. The date rape guy and the aggro homeless guys, I had a pair of Channellock 440s which is a pair of right-angle pliers about a foot long. They make a pretty good billy club when needed, but they stayed in my back pocket most times.

None of that makes me Rambo, but I lived in a town with a lot of crime and I pretty much had to deal with a lot of that shit daily. I wasn't gong to stand and watch women with children be shaken down by thugs - but you're right, a lot of other people did.
