I read that some of the Royal Cdn Mounted Police radio clips were leaked on the net (including youtube) and one constable did report that the guy was eating the victim. What could possess someone to do something like this?
The killer was a newspaper deliverer in Edmonton up until mid July. He has a wife. Just crazy bizarre.
Its amazing how people turn stuff like this into political rants to garner interest in membership of their socialist movements. Anywhere around the globe, a fellow passenger would have taken out their gun and blown this guys head off. The reason this doesnt happen in other countries is for that very reason. In places like Switzerland where everybody and their grandma is packing heat, no one would ever dare do something like this.
this guy was a complete psycho. Do you think that consideration would have even entered his head? He didn't seem too concerned when he realised he'd been locked in the bus, he just went back to what he was doing, not thinking about that the cops would be there soon, or any of the repercussions of his actions
And they're charging him with 2nd degree murder ? The guy thought enough to bring a knife with him, so it was pre planned. He just didn't know who was for lunch until he got there. I'd say its 1st degree all the way. Unfortunately, there will be the mentally impaired defense happening, which will drag the whole legal process down for years. There were plenty of witnesses, so its a lock this freak did the deed. Its a shame we can't just throw him in an alligator pit and move on.
I'm not afraid to bleed, but I won't do it for you.
I'm more or less playing the devils advocate because I really truly don't think any of you guys would have pulled out your guns, I REALLY don't.
Are you sure NONE of us would have? You seem to forget that there is a bunch of us that not only would have, but would have been obligated to do something. Sure, there'd be some paperwork but....

Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Be brave and upright, that God may love thee. Speak the truth always, even if it leads to your death. Safeguard the helpless and do no wrong.
What good is that gonna do? the other dude was already all fucked up.
Plus, unless you have some nice hollowpoints and are one hell of a shooter, chances are you could hurt someone else on the bus. Then it will be two or more dead. Great!!
I am a gun owner, actually guns owner, and I fail to see the benefit of the victim or any other goober on that bus packing heat. The damage was already done.
I don't understand this statement. You're saying that since someone with a gun could not have prevented this attack, bringing one in after-the-fact is pointless?
Granted the guy was most likely not going to recover from the initial stab, depending on where it was, but at least the guy wouldn't have had his head removed had someone splattered the killer's brains from behind.
There's no guarantee that had there been only one gun owner on the bus that he'd have been sitting in the nearby seats. Chances are he would have been obstructed by the other passengers if he was trying to shoot the guy from more than one seat away.
But then who's to say he didn't plan to kill everyone else on the bus?
I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

"yes officer, I have a permit to carry a firearm. However, I never pulled my gun on the subject. I was exiting the bus and it fell out of my holster. The gun discharged and it just so happens that the bullet hit the subject directly between the eyes. Twice."
Having a knife doesn't prove premeditation. He might have carried the knife for self-defense, but then used it when he snapped. It's prudent to carry a weapon for defense on the bus, since there are a lot of nutcases riding with you.
It doesn't matter anyway, since Canada has no death penalty. The only difference between first and second degree is length of sentence and chance of parole anyway.

I agree with you 100% - at least the family may have had an open casket ceremony.I'm not being sarcastic ,proper closure is something people need !!
Enjoying a rum and coke, just didn't have any coke...

The other passengers ran off the bus right away when they realized the guy was stabbing someone. If one of them had a gun he'd have had his clear shot as soon as everybody else cleared off. I doubt anyone was stopping for their carryon bags, so let's say everyone was off the bus in a minute or so.
Yeah, it might have been too late to save the guy's life. But maybe someone could have shot the stabber to death and gone up to comfort the dying victim. He might have known that someone had avenged him in the seconds before he died.
Instead he probably died realizing that someone was starting to cut his head off.
Agreed, Jayster. Personally, if I was the kid's parents, I'd rather be told he was stabbed by some loony with a knife on the bus, who was promptly shot to death himself by an armed rider, than be told the guy had a good hour or more to cut off his head and carve him up like a Thanksgiving turkey.
Lerx - I thought the article said the bus was in motion? I didn't read where people were leaping from a moving bus. The driver had to pull over and let people off, after he figured out what the 30 other people were yelling at him about.

As people are hauling ass for the exit, I reach for my gun. I point the gun at the subject and command him to stop. He continues to stab the victim, so I squeeze off a shot, killing him instantly. Once the police arrive, I'm taken into custody. I'm assured by the police department that everything is gonna be OK and that my actions were warranted.
Just as I breath a sigh of relief, the district attorney walks in and asks if I have a lawyer because I'm going to be charged with manslaughter. He says that even though many people would view my act as correct, even couragious, it would also be viewed as a vigilante act and therefore must be prosecuted.
So, I deplete my savings by hiring an attorney to keep my ass from doing "3 to 9" for manslaughter. While awaiting my court date, my employer decides that he doesn't need the publicity, so he cuts me loose. My wife is traumatized by the constant media attention, so she leaves me and files for divorce.
Finally, my day in court arrives and the judge decides that I should get one year of probation. My relief soon ends when I can't find a job, I have no money, and the ex even took the dog! That's when I decide to write a book about the whole ordeal. My publisher tells me that from preliminary reviews, it's gonna be a best seller. One week before she cuts me a check for $7 million, I'm diagnosed with ass cancer and given two weeks to live. When I look back, I should have taken a cab!
