You didn't know that at the time.

I don't have any idea what her motivation was for what was happening.

As for the personal shit, fire away. I may find it ammusing.

I can't believe I forgot this encounter. I guess I have more Rambo in me than I though.

My house is about a block down from a battered womens shelter. One day I'm out in the yard doing yard work and I hear a dude yelling and screaming at someone. I notice it's coming from a car in the parking lot of that shelter. The girl was screaming bloody murder and so was the dude. Then I hear the girl yell something like "Don't hit me again" or something like that. So I take off in a run down there. When I get there I yell something at him about myself calling the cops and he better get the hell out of here. She's out of the car walking towards the shelter. The dude flips me off and tears off out of there. I stand there for a moment and when the girl gets to the door she turns back and yells at me "Mind your own fuckin' business asshole!".

    Yikes.

So I guess I have a bit more Rambo in me than I thought.

My wife was pissed like you wouldn't believe. She stressed the fact that I was a father and needed to worry about my sons more than someone off the street. She's right you know.

Ask Bil Z., a cop for 13 years. The cops usually only find out after the fact of the crime. There just aren't enough of them in any given city to be on top of crime as it happens.
See, I wouldn't. But I have 2 kids that need a father. Call me a dick or whatever but I wouldn't stick my neck out for anybody that I don't know and make my sons grow up without a father.

    Is that so bad?

Yep, I'm sure that would have made the whole incounter much, much better.

I wasn't talking about you... I was talking generally about people who post that kind of stuff on the net... and not only that... people who say that on the public... or even some folks that I know personally... how the heck I know that when the time comes they "accidently" aren't going to shoot me? I can't really trust no one (except for a cop, soldier etc.) in that kind of situation because these things don't happen every day.

One night while at the "blue lights", a spot to park and do whatever by the airport, he saw a man assaulting a woman in the parking lot. Being the cool dude he was, he got out of the car and tried to help the lady. The dude pulled out a .38 and shot him in the head and killed him instantly. That was over 20 years ago.

Sometimes it doesn't pay to stick you nose into other peoples business. That's why we have cops.

Or did said geek do that to show the jocks and the girls that always gave him a tough time for being a geek that when their looks and stamina are gone, he'll have more money than the Roman Catholic Church?

Is he doing it to compensate, or to say "fuck you, you fucking fucks!"?

Only the geek knows for sure, but had I been in Bill Gates' shoes, you're damn right I'd show up in a 40-foot limo wearing a suit that I flew to Italy to have tailored specifically for me for the sole purpose of saying "fuck you, you fucking fucks"

The rattlesnake was the only case where I had a gun to use. The date rape guy and the aggro homeless guys, I had a pair of Channellock 440s which is a pair of right-angle pliers about a foot long. They make a pretty good billy club when needed, but they stayed in my back pocket most times.

None of that makes me Rambo, but I lived in a town with a lot of crime and I pretty much had to deal with a lot of that shit daily. I wasn't gong to stand and watch women with children be shaken down by thugs - but you're right, a lot of other people did.

Those people are chickenshits, but not everybody is a chickenshit. Some people will stand up for others even if it scares them, because they couldn't live with themselves if they didn't.
    +1
Sooner or later we are going to have to understand the police are not going to be watching over us all of the time. There are going to be times when we are going to have to defend ourselves as well as others.

Lerx, I appreciate you standing up for those women. We have an 8 year old girl and If something were to happen to her I don't think i could ever get over it.

now that's more like it... most of us would like to believe that we could save the victims

but the attitude ala "I would have easily shot the bitch down and stood on his head while they take photos of me for the newspapers" is plain ridiculous.... ok, this is a little bit exaggerated but you get the point

a lot of people don't have control over themselves in certain situations... that's why many get easily into drug, alcohol or some other addictions... or can't stop eating greasy food or stop masturbating 7 times a day... nothing to do with extreme situation but that shows that people have a hard time controlling themselves even when there's no stabbing/shooting happening.

ask yourself what would you do if...

you are in a lower deck of a drowning ship

    you are witnessing a rape

you are in a fancy party and see that 7 feet away from you a dame stumbles and drops a wine glass

now ask yourself have you been in that kind of situations before

if you haven't then think how do you really know what would happen
if you have... then what really did happen?

no one can be really sure what would happen... so promoting yourself as a Rambo in the internet is pretty silly

sometimes altruism can be de biggest act of egoism

G, you know that "always" is a figure of speech, meaning "often" in reality.

But I'm curious as to whether you actually read the whole thread to get an idea of context, and if so, what's up your ass on this one? I can't recall having an unpleasant exchange with you before, ever. So what did I do to offend you today?
