Why do we even have court systems? I mean really, wouldn't it be cheaper to just give everyone a gun at age 18 and let them be judge, jury and executioner? Save us a lot of money we could be sending to Saudi Arabia for more oil.

Because it is rare to actually catch someone in the act, and you would have addle-brained morons shooting each other on hearsay or for any reason under the sun - from halitosis to freckles.
However, with a busload of witnesses, there's no way it can be categorised as hearsay.I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

And I will put this out there just being the Devils Advocate.
Who's to day these dudes didn't know eachother before they got on the bus? What if the dude that got killed had just killed this guys mother?
A stretch? Maybe but not a huge one.
So if that was the case, that would change the reason for this murder just a little bit, don't you think?
Is that something that an untrained but well armed milita will think of before pulling their guns and firing away? I doubt it.
I get it. Most people who buy guns want to use them. That would be like buying a Custom Shop Jackson but never playing it. So I get that people want to use their guns.
It's the wanting to use them against humans that I don't get.I'm angry because you're stupid

Well, I'll hazard a guess and say "because they had the good sense to get off the bus"I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

But wasn't there a few in this thread that said that was the wrong thing to do? They should have stormed back there with guns firing to save a guy that was dead already?
I seem to remember that but I'm too lazy to go back and look.I'm angry because you're stupid

Once the police arrive, I'm taken into custody. I'm assured by the police department that everything is gonna be OK and that my actions were warranted.
Just as I breath a sigh of relief, the district attorney walks in and asks if I have a lawyer because I'm going to be charged with manslaughter. He says that even though many people would view my act as correct, even couragious, it would also be viewed as a vigilante act and therefore must be prosecuted.
So, I deplete my savings by hiring an attorney to keep my ass from doing "3 to 9" for manslaughter. While awaiting my court date, my employer decides that he doesn't need the publicity, so he cuts me loose. My wife is traumatized by the constant media attention, so she leaves me and files for divorce.
Finally, my day in court arrives and the judge decides that I should get one year of probation. My relief soon ends when I can't find a job, I have no money, and the ex even took the dog! That's when I decide to write a book about the whole ordeal. My publisher tells me that from preliminary reviews, it's gonna be a best seller. One week before she cuts me a check for $7 million, I'm diagnosed with ass cancer and given two weeks to live. When I look back, I should have taken a cab!Hail yesterday

And cut it out with the all the macho "I would have shot him" bullshit. We all know you'd be trying to get out of that bus as fast as possible.
And if you had shot him, I strongly believe you would be convicted of manslaughter/3rd degree murder. Nothing gives you the right to shoot another human being - everyone has the right to pursuit of happiness. Committing a crime does not forfeit that right.
Bear in mind f the guy's 30-40 feet away from you, and focused on stabbing someone else, it's not that great of a risk to pull out a handgun loaded with say 13 rounds like mine is, and shoot the guy from a safe distance. If he tries to rush you he has to come straight down a narrow aisle and I can put 5 rounds in him in short order. That doesn't take Clint Eastwood or Charles Bronson. It just takes someone who is willing to try and save a life.
Those of you who think that such a person would be exulting in shooting the murderer are way out of line. Maybe that's your deep-seated fantasy, but it isn't mine.
And if you think everybody is too chickenshit to do that, then again, maybe you're projecting your own inner feelings as well.
I will admit that if I did not have a gun on me I would not risk my life trying to stop the killer, unless it was someone I knew. But if I were armed with a gun, you bet I would try.
I'd rather serve a prison term for homicide than know I let someone die who I might have saved. The killer forfeits his life, at least if that's what it takes to stop him. If you can live with yourself in that scenario, good for you. I couldn't, if I could try to help and didn't do it.
And yes, I would shoot him dead even if the first victim was dead, to make sure he couldn't kill anyone else before the cops got there. I would have zero remorse for that.Ron is the MAN!!!!

gotta love this macho BS... people are stupid sheep... in extreme situations most panic and run for their lives... how do you know how you actually gonna act in a situation like this (not including the guys who are trained for handling that kind of things)... and folks in hysteria with guns... that's something I would be more afraid of than some psycho who is chopping up someone with a knife"There is nothing more fearful than imagination without taste" - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

In the slightly probable event this was a revenge killing, as you propose as a possibility, then the guy has no leg to stand on. Had he caught the guy in the act of killing his mother, then yeah, I say hack him to death and cut him into pieces on the spot.
However, if that indeed was the case, and the guy was not just some loony looking to play Hannibal Lecter, then a "well-armed militia" would still be justified in shooting the guy, being unaware of the extenuating circumstances.
And as far as I've seen, the only people who WANT to use guns against humans are the ones who sell, buy, and/or transport drugs, rape, steal, murder, and are otherwise totally different from those who understand there comes a time when you NEED to use one against a human.
These are also the people who are not stupid enough to show up at the "cash for guns" programs that many cities have, because they understand that an unarmed populace is a field full of sheep.I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

In no way is a well armed milita justified in shooting anybody. That's the point. No where have I seen that it's OK for people to be walking around deciding who lives and who dies. That's why we have a court system. That's why Police don't just shoot murder suspects. Everyone has a right to their day in court, regardless of what they have done. So there is no justification for him commiting this act just like there would be no justification for someone pulling out a gun and shooting the killer. If you shot and killed that person I guarentee you'd have your day in court as well.
I'm not so sure about your discription of those that WANT to use guns. I'd like to believe that but I doubt it.
And I agree with Endrik. Who knows how they would react in this situation? I tend to believe most of you would high tail it off the bus too. Even if you were packing. Hell, I know I would. I don't know this guy, I'm not going to have my kids be raised without a father just to help someone I don't know. May sound selfish but I kinda think my kids need a father.I'm angry because you're stupid

Why do they decide who lives and who dies? You can use a gun to take someone out of the equation without killing them. A shot to the lower leg below the knee or in the foot will encapacitate anyone. There are lots of places to shoot where the injury can be small but effective. As for everyone panicking. I dont believe that, as people react in one of three macro ways depending on how their brain functions. Some will panic, some will freeze in the spot, and some will be calm. Within those three macro groups, everyone will react slightly differently in their predetermined paths. To say everyone will react the same is ridiculous. Well unless the bus was filled with French people........
