  • The Olympic Games 2008

First of all, let's keep all the politics/tibet stuff out of this thread and just talk about the events and the athletes!

Just saw the opening! Very impressive on so many levels... I won't give any spoilers, because I think most of you US guys haven't seen it yet.

Looking forward to many cool events!

Meh. Some of it is interesting, but it's lost a lot of it's meaning to me as 90% of them are paid, professional, athletes. I'll be glad if the US gets some medals, but I won't be heart broken, though we have some good stories on this year's team.

I hope the air quality is OK for the track & field events. Things have been shaping up nicely this season for some world records to fall, but if the air sucks I don't see it happening. I think the swimming venue may be outdoors too, so it could also be a big factor there.

The huge amount of fireworks they blew up didn't help the air quality either

I think I must've been confusing it with the Athens swimming venue, which was outdoors. This thing looks pretty awsome!

I love Olympic sports, both summer and winter.

I was a gymnast growing up so that's what I watch most.

I was suppose to be in the olympics this year, but a ripped muscle in my leg just won't let me compete....and that's the truth...with some cheese on it.

Yes, it is. They broadcasted a documentary about that building on National Geographic Channel. It is made of thin plastic layers filled with air (or water, I cannot remember which one)

I watched a small part of the opening ceremony. The Tai Ji chuan demonstration with 2008 people was cool, imo.

I'll be watching the Judo and Taekwondo matches, if I have the chance.

"Made in China" I'm sure that's what is stamped on the sound system that cut off the end of the national anthem during the gold medal ceremony. You know, the land of the free and the home of the brave part. Fuck China!!
