Just saw the opening! Very impressive on so many levels... I won't give any spoilers, because I think most of you US guys haven't seen it yet.

Looking forward to many cool events!

Sorry, dude, but China needs good publicity like John Holmes needed penile implants. Every time they open their mouth they need a handful of shit shoved in it and told to sit down and shut up. The Chinese People need guns to drive out the Commies and burn and hang anyone who swears loyalty to Kim Il Song.

You could argue that the commies made them what they are today.

You could also argue... in a new thread about China and its politics instead of one about sports.

Yep, I view that incident disrespectful to our American athletes and to our Country.

Yeah, fuck China, but over getting us addicted to their cheap products at the expense of our economic health and overt their monumental systematic human rights abuses...not a PA screw up that probably pissed off more Chinese than Americans.

It was amazing to watch. I grew up swimming competitively, and that last leg is the kind of thing you might expect to see in lower-level competition, but to close like that on a world record holder?? Insane! You could tell how shocked Rowdy Gaines was as he called it. And Phelps is so fucking awesome! You could tell he wasn't thinking at all about how it keeps him on track for 8 golds. He was totally in the moment, just going nuts like he probably did at a meet when he was 12.

This is why I love the Olympics and don't give a shit about the politics. I care about Darfur and Tibet, but don't punish athletes or miss out on some inspiring performances because the committee made a bad choice or didn't have a crystal ball 12 years ago.

Bollocks!! Was it right to boycott South Africa during apartheid? Was that "punishing" athletes by making them stay away from SA? Was it fuck. Maybe we should just forget about Chinese barbarism in Tibet, Falun Gong persecution, their sponsoring of regimes likely to de-stabilise world peace, not to mention their record on animal welfare, just in case it upsets some cunt whose sole purpose in life is to run round a field 7/10ths of a second faster than somebody else.

Fuck the Olympics, it's a slobbering monster with festering dangleberries. They knew full-well 12 years ago that China was a problem, they just thought either:
                                a. We'll civilise them by then.
                                or
                                b. Fuck it, they've given us a load of cash, take the bung and award them the games.

Either way it's bollocks. Don't be suckered by a load of clones poncing about grinning and waving streamers all in synch. That's a good illustration of the monster that is China.

My only apology for hijacking this thread is to those who really love the sports and go out in the wind and rain to watch athletics championships. I'm sure some of you do actually care that X beat Y's world record by a fraction of a second. In the same fashion, I'm sure some people really do enjoy train-spotting. I can't understand it, I would rather nail my sac to a table, but then each to his own, whatever lifts your skirt.

My objection is to the way so many people dropped to their knees and sucked the Chinese Olympic Dong (geddit, see what I did there?). ANYONE with a shred of conscience would have said "Fuck it, stay at home" and ran round their own stadium very quickly. What's the difference? Records would still stand. The difference is "chance in a lifetime". Well boo-hoo, tell that to a monk whose brains are about to paint the monastery wall in Tibet. The world should have turned its back on the Chinks and then as they and North Korea competed in an empty stadium for the Olympic medal, they might have had an inkling that they are a shower of cunts and should get their house in order for the 21st Century.

                                PS.
Mah ne-groes can run faster than yo ne-groes.
