I'm sure there will always be advances in the sport. But this seems like almost too much too soon.

Imagine what Phelps could do in the freestyle if he didn't have that little hitch in his stroke. Sure he's fast but not fluid at all.

And I still think he acted like a bit of a baby after the butterfly.

But for these swimmers, the time is more important than the medal. I can understand that.
some of the swimming races I saw... along with tv commentators there was one swimming coach commenting how much changes there have been made in technique ... specially those which have been made recently... and all the changes have been approved by the officials... and while the competitiors were swimming he pointed out all the little nuances that has been improved... seemed pretty reasonable to me.
my grandma who competed in swimming long long time ago said that swimming now is completely different... pretty much every technique has changed since her swimming days.

as far as how Mike acted... I dunno.... sport is pretty emotional... when I competed in something and wasn't happy with the result I acted like a big fucking asshole

I get you. And I don't watch a ton of swimming, you have to really search for it when it's not the Olympics. Just seems to be a ton of records falling and I don't remember that happening to this degree before.

And about acting like an asshole, you should have seen me at State when I was 14. Total asshole. But I was 14, and an immature 14 at that.

But it's not like he threw a total fit or anything. I just thought he should have had more class. But there have been those that acted worse. Tony Harding comes to mind.

Dunno - it seems like every record falling is just a record from within the past 4 years anyway. Are there any record times older than that?

probably not because the sport and its technique improves every year... well that's an understatement... more like in every month

Then these records should be falling at the US Nationals and the like. Not just every 4 years at the Olympics.

the records are constantly broken as far as I know... the Australians are pretty good at it...

that being said everyone wants to be the best at the olympics because its the most important event for swimmers

I video of Janos Baranai in weight lifting. His elbow dislocated and the bar came down on his shoulder. He hit the groun with his arm pointing in a direction they aren't made to point. Looks like youtube is having all the olympic vids pulled. Stupid profiteering jackassery....

I'll try to update the link as it gets reposted...

                      Oooh that's gotta sting!

I like the way the little drones come out with the boards to hide him. It's not like he had a compound fracture with his bones sticking our squirting blood all over the audience.

id imagine at the speed these guys swim, goggles are a must. I played water polo & on the swim team in high school and when ever i didn't have goggles during swim practice, my eyes looked like i was baked. it would take half the day for the halo to go away.

yea, some of the records being broken are from national meets, Olympic trials, the last World Champs, etc.
