So apparently Russia and Georgia are at war with eachother

breaking news states 2 russian jets were downed and right now russia has destroyed the capitol, and the georgians are firing rockets into tiblisi

Man I remember playing a Rainbow 6 computer game that had the same shit going down in it! creepy!

You know, it's funny, that thought crossed my mind but chances of it happening aren't very high at the moment. They seem to really be puffing out their chest lately though, their fierce opposition to the mission defense system in the Czech Repulic comes to mind. Probably has more to do though with their ego in general still being chipped since the USSR imploded though.

Btw, am I the only one who finds 2 MiG-31s (going off the photos I saw earlier) getting shot down kind of funny, as the 31 is supposed to be one of the fastest interceptors the world with fairly advanced electronic systems, and yet Georgia, fielding outdated tech, managed to shoot two of them down. Wtf is with that? Russia sending their reserves out there?

as far as i'm aware it's not actually russia v georgia... Georgia is invading a seperatist state. Russia has peacekeepers there too. Another seperatist state is also sending troops there. Russia seems to be in the unique position of being both a mediator between the state and georgia and also a firm supporter of the state's independence and anti georgia joining nato... And also happens to have had people shot at...i would be interested to see how russia plays this out

I try to look on the bright side of things, but this could shape up to be an ugly beginning to WW3, I mean all it takes is for russia to do something REALLY stupid like bomb Tiblisi, and then if the US gets involved in ANY way then it's on, I mean I'm an armchair war monger, I really don't know whats going on, none of us really do, but this could escalate beyond just some simple fighting, the fact that Putin is still Prime minister, This is all pretty freakin scary, Russia and China are buddies, China and Iran are buddies, Georgia is a US backed state, I would hope the US/Canada would not be stupid enough to stick it's nose in other people's business, BAH

CNN just confirmed Georgia is pulling all of it's troops in Iraq out to bring them home to fight!, fuckin strange not something you'd want to do when you are already fighting!

It's all about oil. There's a pipeline being built thru Georgia. They decided to route it thru Turkey and Israel instead of Russia. So Russia supports a couple of separatist movements to 'change thier minds'. If Georgia routes it thru Russia - the movements die.

The Georgian government is crazy if they think the USA will risk WWIII over their little country. We weren't willing to do it for Hungary or Czechoslovakia, either.

Re: Russia and China- They have a use for one another as counterbalances to the United States, but no 2 expansionist countries that share a 4300km border (and really one much larger than that- They'd both run over Kazakhstan & Mongolia if they needed to) are going to be buddy buddy forever.

Even during the Soviet era, the Chinese & Russians had little use for each other- The Chinese thought the Russians were a bunch of sellouts to "true" communism.

I agree, but unfortunatly I don't think the big news agencies do.

I believe we are now in an era of "news" where the news makes the "news". They know that. Thats why MSNBC and CNN cater to the left and FOX News caters to the right. They make the news now by what they cover. And they believe people like crap like affairs better than war in Eastern Europe. And I agree with them there. I would guess most people would rather watch John Edwards squirm than see what's going on in Russia.

I don't agree with it at all, but I think it is just like that.
