eh. it's getting pretty good... some US politician in EU congress saying that Russia should stop... Russian politician's answer "we don't need advice from war criminals"

they also managed to threaten Latvia... ambassador Vesnjakov said that when Latvia is going to judge Russia then they are gonna face serious consequences.

when this is over... I'd love to see the separatists faces and how they think of their big alley

    some interesting analyzation http://www.armchairgeneral.com/assau...a-conflict.htm

So are you saying we are going to get involved because of the pipeline?

Or just trying to prove that you hoarding silver isn't laughable?

Or really concerned about the Georgians/Russians involved?

Or just wasting time like I am?

Either way, it's an interesting event that I still have to search for on national news sources. Still hear a lot about Edwards and the Trollop.

Me? I think we'll hear a lot of hard talk with no hard action. We are spread way too thin to do anything about it. And we have eyes on Iran anyway. Kinda fucks up the plan a bit.

We'll start seeing more coverage of it because our Pres. candidates are speaking about it on the campaign trail. Like either one will ever do anything about it once in office.
Peace, Love and Happieness and all that stuff...

There are other unseen issues at work too, but yes, the pipeline has something to do with it.

This is what is called a falshpoint.

This could be the start of WWIII which I hope does not happen.

Remember some stupid Serb killed some Kaiser half a world away and that led to WWI.

I do not see it ending good right now. I am concerned on a personal level since I have friends overseas right now plus I heard of Serb involment over there on the side of the Russians and I am a Croat by blood.

I am trying to prove my hoarding of AK47 and 74 bullets is not laughable since that is what will be used against us eventually if we do not see a resultion soon. Silver is hard to make into bullets.

I see the Russians doing more than just hard talk and words. This could not end well for the rest of the world. Eastern Europe will be next with these Russian "Peace Keepers"

What I would like to see is a Proxy War against Russia and a flood of arms to destabilize the region. Till they do what they did in 1989.

What I dont want to see is WWIII.

OK, I see what you are saying.

                  That leads to another question.

How, IYHO, will this effect us Americans? If it's WWIII between us and Russia then won't it be fought with bigger weapons, aka Nukes over ground forces? Would the US try to invade Russia? Will Russia try to invade the US?

I'm just wondering how far you think this will go. And I'm not trying to be smart or smarmy or lead you into anything. I'm very curious how you think this will play out to the average American.

Its hard to say at this point. If an invasion happened at all it would be more likely the Chinese before the Russians.

First it will be Georgia then all the former Warsawpact nations in WWIII. The fighting in the Warsaw pact would provide a buffer zone for Western Europe to mobilize and set up a front on European soil.

I beleive if any Russian nukes go off it will be in Isreal first, Soviets will throw the Iranians under the bus and claim they did it, so we retailate against Iran with a nuke. With our missle defense shield it will be hard for Russia to even consider a direct attack. I dont really see a nuclear holocaust in WWIII but at least a few going off in the middle east maybe Europe.

Now this is all hypothetical if shit hits the fan. I beleive if it ever got to the point of us being invaded it would be by Mexico and China as well as Cuba/Venezuala first. The Russians would have their hands tied in Europe. China and Mexico would of course side with Russia.

We would really have our hands tied if Mexico chose to invade as there are plenty already here that would take up arms without question against our government.

Canada has the majority of the oil the USA consumes about 70% so I think if the Russian put together a force it would go through the North Pole into Canada but then again the Russians dont really need Canada's oil they have their own but stragically it would cripple us.

Just a few hypotheticals and talking out my ass.

I think Europe and the middle east would be the first to go it would take years before we actually saw a shot fired on US soil.

Edited to add: Our nation is in no position to invade nothing. Even if we instituted a draft. We are realiant on military technology.

If in fact the "pipeline" is the biggest factor in all of this, we'll definitely see the results at the pump.

                          AK,
Interesting reading. Thanks for posting that. I don't know if I'm on board with you but it's interesting reading.

As for prices at the pump, what's new? Gas prices have fallen here in Des Moines about 40 cents in the last couple of weeks but prices at .99 cents a gallon are long gone never to be seen again. There are plenty here to be pissed at about the gas thing. I'm not exactly sure how much more assfucking we'd be in for with this pipeline in the wrong hands or whatever the issue is with this pipeline.

I started this thread because I was up late and saw the breaking news, I didn't think shit about WWII before, that was just a knee jerk kind of silly responce to what I was seeing I figured most of you guys would be seeing John Edwards get his pee pee slapped by the US media, which seems to be the case, since It was hard to find anything, other than that shit for a few days so I went online.

I have a few things to put out there.

I'll try to find sources but this might be a long post.

I think this is the first stage in a reclimation of former soviet states to bring back the former grand size of the USSR and perhaps the first stage in a new cold war, that I don't believe will last nearly as long and I believe it will be a "Hot" war, unlike the first cold war that was more or less a big chess match, This one will be more like a large pissing match, I believe leaders during the last cold war were perhaps a little more civilised and less trigger happy, but that could be closer to a naieve statement than anything.

I will say that I think Putin has obviously made efforts to keep himself in power with a figurehead in the current president, which means that he can in a time of power tell the new guy to get the fuck out of the way I'm in charge, in a similar fashion with the patriot act that in a time of war the president can postpone elections, which also just so happen to be coming up in the USA.

I watched a show a few months ago on a canadian news show called W5 about the current uprising amongst Russian youth, in universities and in the general populace towards becoming more nationalist, and they are showing strong support for putin, could have more to do with thier desire to have more money, but it also has a polarizing effect in which they will now follow him in whatever he says, like the peid piper

                            here is an interesting link

With elections just around the corner, President Vladimir Putin's popularity seems higher than ever -- particularly among Russian youth. The right-tilting group Nashi practically worships their leader, and isn't shy about letting the opposition know about it.

so what I mean by all this, is that it could be a sign of the current things to come, well it clearly is a sign. Will the USA sit back and let Russia take Georgia back as one of it's own pieces of land, so that Russia will turn it's back when we want to foolishly attack Iran?. If we attack Iran we can bet on China helping Iran as they have said as much, they have threatened us before if we block the straight of hormuz, which we would need to if we plan on an air assault, because we couldn't rely soly on iraq and afghanistan regarding using US built airports, as they would need to be fighting in Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan all at the same time because it wouldnt be possible based on insurgents disrupting that war?

I think the current group of people running our countries are less moral and would lean towards first strike nuclear attacks to preempt an attack on them. I do however laugh when people mention any sort of nuclear sheild or blanket, as the system sounds more like Skynet every day! To assume a missile sheild would work this early into development is silly, sure it might stop one missile, but tests show it would take several attempts to stop just one, and if more than 10 get fired at us, which is a silly amount let alone the entire arsenal http://www.cdi.org/nuclear/database/nukestab.html, Nothing, and I mean NOTHING would stop it. That is why Mutually assured destruction worked well and why it neutralized peoples trigger fingers for so long, the second you add something into the mix that would derail MAD like a missile sheild then it seems less and less likely it would matter if you premptivly strike.

I don't know what any of this means, other than I wish we could just all cool our jets and go back to being isolationists!

yes... and it's not only in Russia but in other countries' Russian schools too.
Estonia is trying to loose all the Russian-language schools because the teachers are brainwashing the kids with the same propaganda shit that goes way back to Lenin and Stalin era.

He he, yep, I thought that too when I saw AK's comment about a "missile shield". When ICBMs are raining down, even with the best technology available, it's like shooting down missiles with a pellet gun. You might get lucky but generally they go far too fast.

I think we're in for a long time of various states bitching and scrapping and we, the rest of the world, have to just STFU, sit back and let them get on with it. Interfering and siding with little fledgeling states consisting of ethnic enclaves started WW1 and that reverberated into WW2.

Look at a map of 20 years ago, and look at a modern one. So many countries have split, re-united, changed names etc etc. For an old cunt like me, who still insists Beijing is Peking, and that anything East of Berlin is Russia, a modern map is a weird thing! Even in breakaway republics like Georgia, there are breakaway sectors (South Ossetia). The whole world's at it - even the Scottish might want to declare independence (fuck 'em, they'll be smiling on the other side of their wife-beating faces when Iceland seize back the Orkneys etc, and we, their former English Masters, leave them to it. They'll come begging with their porridge bowls out, fuck them.............erm, there you go, you see how easy it is for these things to escalate?! )

Territory and colonial influence is a powerful thing, even in today's climate where reminiscing on the Good Old Days when the sun never set on the British Empire is considered very un-PC and old-fashioned, we still would get bristly about anyone fucking with "our" turf. How much do you want to bet the Argies are eyeing up the Falklands? The Spanish would love to grab back Gibraltar. If we, here in the greatest country in the world, would fight tooth and nail for those scraps of land, what hope is there for all the places "out there" like Georgia, populated by inbred savages?

We need to just sit back, let them all fight it out, ignore the pics of bombed civilians, war is hell. The Olympics are on, watch that, when the dust settles in Russia, it'll be business as usual again, unless some thick twat in power at the White House or Downing St etc, decides to be all bleeding heart and stand up for one of these fly-fart grains of goat shit countries. Leave them to it.
So I woke up,rolled over and who was lying next to me? Only Bonnie Langford!

                                I nearly broke her back
