..I heard it to one the rare occassion I ventured out with my kid in my hooptie with just a radio..it was on twice. Once going to the store..then on the way home..goddam!

My kid heard it for the first time and didn't care for it..well, he's spoiled! The second time we turned it off and talked..'bout girls..quality time.

The solo..the solo..its so cheap and sloppy...it sound like Kirk with a dash of ol' Mick Mars to me! But Mick sounds better than ever, tone and all in his poor condition..so kudos.

I picked up the new live Therion cd w/DVD..just watched it with my wife!!!

Also picked up the last Death Angel..I was expecting better but its cool.

I don't know how to explain just how bad this sucks. I LOVE Metallica, I was mostly OK with everything ('cept that orchestra shite) til St. Anger. This song sucks. James' voice is terrible. He can't SING..take the edge out of his voice, and it's shit. Ok the "heavy" part around 4 mins..rocked, got my interest, then James put the same lame vocal noise over it. I turned it off there. so i've only heard half of the song, i dont' like it.
I'm not here to bash them, I'm just here to say I don't like the song.

I just finished listening to the new single and it sounds like it was several Black album songs pasted together. I'm sure it'll sell, but not to me.

I do like the raw sounding mix, nothing at all like black/load/reload on that aspect. Everything sounds up in your face. That fast riff in there makes me want to break stuff. I am anxiously awaiting 9/12.
The tone is really shitty, true. But luckily there seems to have been some sort of malfunction with the single, it has a shit ton of clipping and distortion going on.

Warner said they were fixing it and the actual Master was not affected. I hope it's true and not a PR story.

Ten years ago, I heard from an engineer friend working on a Rubin project that he was mostly hands off and only came in to check on progress and have a short talk with the artists. My friend was surprised, but soon found out that this is just how he "works", all the time. There's a lot of resentment for Rubin amongst some engineers and producers for this perceived lack of work ethic. At least for this song, the approach of forcing Lars to track his drums in one take seems to have not paid off.

    Yes they are Spiv.

If you can embrace the fact that DT puts out their misunderstoods, disappears, silent men and hollow years, then you can surely embrace the fact that Metallica wasn't one-dimensional, they matured.

he worked with Johnny pretty recently... all the latest stuff before he died.. and also had pretty big part in SOAD albums
and sound as such is the least important part of the production and the thing which Rick doesn't know much about (he stated it himself that he lacks the knowledge of audio engineering, mixing etc.)
