I'm not really a fan, but I read the Slipknot cover story in Guitar World (I think it's this month's issue) and they both sounded so down about the album that I thought it must really be a piece of crap. Yet I've heard a couple of cuts on the Comcast metal channel (do other people get this?) and thought that it sounded really together, not at all what I was expecting.

That's more or less what I got from it. They kind of sounded like they were disapointed with the process this time a round.
Yeah, they made it all sound so slapdash, like they just threw the songs together. and everybody came in at different times to record their parts and nobody knew what anyone else was doing.
he blows Hetfield out the water. personally i thought his voice was great. at least he was still being true to himself and their music, unlike the 'gods' of metal lately.
Did he really damage his voice? Dang I thought Vol 3 kicked ass.

Personally, I thought the album sucked! I had high expectations after reading the GW column, but yeah they did not sound too hyped about the album either. Only about how good the studio was and the album's lyrical content and stuff.
