Last truely good stuff I heard this decade was new Tool and APC stuff, anything else was mediocre at best.

The best thing I've heard from 2008 is probably the latest Opeth...but it's not their best...the new Turisas is fun. It has been a slow year.

The new Opeth is boring as hell, IMO. I haven't liked anything they've done since Deliverance.
The new Deicide album is a great listen, although not as good as Stench. The Stone Gods album is pretty good too, although half of it is kinda boring.
Quiet year for metal all round.

Check out Walter Trout's newest album, rocks harder than most modern metal bands. And sweet guitar playing too!

I just gave Opeth a shot in the last couple of months and the one thing I can say abou them is you really can't form a proper opinion without listening to a bunch of songs. Their music is all over the map stylistically.

I find I my favorite albums of theirs are Damnation (the mellow one) and Watershed. I love the tones they get on Damnation.

The Warrel Dane solo CD, as well as the new Testament and Opeth CDs kick ass!!
I can't recall buying anything else this year. I'm awaiting the new Evergrey in two weeks, and The Haunted should have a new one out in October.
