I had the same issue with SP3 autoupdate. I will not go through all the mess it involved to get it back up and running. All the WGA files got corrupted and I could not activate/validate my version of windows XP. Nevermind I have 3 original discs from 3 PC's. I am not talking OEM versions either. It was a massive mess and believe me when I say Microsoft tech help is like talking to a wall. Thank goodness for the internet and other people that are willing to help.

I was talking with some people at work and it seems that everyone who downloaded the SP3 Autoupdate got fucked. Thank's to the kind folks here at the JCF, I was back up quickly.

I'm a tech in a large school environment and this I know.
SP3 is no where near ready for professional environments, Schools, Hospitials, Corp. Offices, Banks, HR Offices/payrolls and etc.
Its a hellish nightmare and it should have never been released like it is.
        Bad judgement on Microsoft's behalf.
Peace, Love and Happieness and all that stuff...

I personally do not care how it was built as long as it is a good playing/sounding instrument.

Hmm...we just rolled out SP3 at work (~800 machines) and had no issues. And our machines are anywhere from 1-7 years old.

I'd try it again, but disable the virus software first. I've had virus software really mess up installations with no sign of anything going wrong.

SP3 is apparently a problem for a lot of people.

            I'm sticking with SP2 since SP3 wouldn't work.

I haven't had any problems with SP3 on a fresh install of XP, but I can rarely get it to go on a machine that has had the same install for a while.
