We've already had 55 mpg gallon capable cars. Remember the Geo Metro? Yeah, the one you didn't buy?

The Opel Eco Speedster also comes to mind. Diesel-powered sports car that got 100+ MPG a few years ago but was never put into production.

It's ashame diesel costs so much over here. Over a dollar more a gallon. Screw that. Not to mention we like our cars to start in the winter up here in the East, though it would be less of a problem down south. Plus, the name alone would make it a hard sell as the old Fiestas were kind of crappy. I think because of gas prices, and the limited market appeal, diesels will never truly be wide spread here.

I highly doubt that really makes 65 MPG.

Yes it really does. There are alot of VWs and Audis in Europe that get similar or higher gas mileage. That is why Hybrids do not sell well in Europe. The stupid EPA put a stop to diesel imports so we lose big time.

Great, just another thing they are doing that ends up costing us money.

Yeah it is absolutely criminal that we don't have stuff like that available for purchase in the U.S.A.

My brother had a Geo Metro. You cannot put 5 people in them, unless all 5 are midgets.

But then, they're basing that on the "average man on the street", which is currently a 30-something Chinaman

I'm sure those enclosed shopping carts they're passing off as cars get great mileage being made of plastic and aircraft aluminum, but they ride like shit and those of us who actually made it over 6 feet tall simply have no use for such a small vehicle. We can't get in, we can't get out if we do get in, and we cannot get comfortable in them.
