This country was founded by people trying to get away from the oppression they faced in the "old world". Those people included many, many greedy businessmen, and they've been on top from the beginning: the difference is that today they have much more reach and influence than they did even 50 years ago.

What we're experiencing today really is nothing new, it just has greater consequences today than it did previously, and it costs more to fix.

corporate executives raked in million in salary, stock options, bonus etc for bad business practices and total failure yet we the people get to dig them out (aka stuck up the ass). That just sends the wrong message imho...something has to change bigtime. We're not America the almighty anymore, we're America the frail and fragile because of this kind of shit all because of greed finding loopholes and taking advantage of them (us).

I do know one thing, if I charged up all my credit and bought a couple more houses and couldnt pay for them -- or god forbid I can't pay my IRS tax liability do you think the gub'ment would bail my ass out of trouble? hell no

        Actually, yes.

It is the only logical answer.

Printing money is not the way to fix the problem and we are giving a clean slate to the offenders to do this again.
Until the real value of all assets drops 30%+, we will just be moving this problem to the next generation = with interest.

Increasing my tax burden without a vote from my representative seems to be "taxation without representation". I seem to recall seing this phrase someplace.

Socialism for the rich, capitalism for the working class.

Now is the time to contact your senators and representatives - if you think this is good, or bad, they need to hear it from their constituents ASAP

I totally agree bro. US is great but now the country is at its ultimate low. Europe has made similar mistakes in the past and it takes a lot of time to recover. Too bad that US politicians didn't learn anything form the history.
The politics and social environment in wealthy European countries are unacceptable for most of the americans right now (somehow those ways are called communism or something similar, but I have yet to understand how being wealthy, not working like a maniac, having a good life and when the country takes car of you is communism). US people are not ready for those changes yet... but one day they will when they understand that just being called "the greatest country in the world" is not enough... specially when things are not that great.

Well looks like, to me, that the growing fear of accepting socialism (which obviously still has its roots in anti-communism in some places) is what is causing your troubles.

I'f you'd press for socialism, working classes would benefit from it too (added health insurance, and what have you). But by so vehemently opposing it you are only making sure only the rich benefit from it.

yep, you are absolutely right... many americans think that social democratics equals communism... look at Scandinavia.... they are so fucking rich.... but without so called socialism they would fucking leave their countries.

                Agreed!

Most US citizens would probably be offended if their government tried anything close to what Scandinavian governments do, but look at them, they're (Scandinavia) as close to a Utopia as u can get. Seriously.

I can't disagree more, it is only socialism (guarantees) that the rich now gov't owned corporations get absolved of debt. It is a hybrid of the worst design. And it does end in socialism or fascism but not until the wealth of the once great middle class is suffocated.

I tend to think we may be headed to fascism in the end, but there probably won't be a clean break, just a muddy cloudy decline into unpleasantness until someone's sweeping reset button gives us a new form of gov't.

I have no fear of socialism itself, no love of it either. It's the transition that is scary.
Despite what the people of Europe think, the everyday 95%+ American does not agree with what the government has done in many respects.
Our depiction in our own media is unfortunate, because we are like most peoplr from other countries that understand you don't get "something for nothing".

Unfortunately jose sixpack is busy working and isn't in a board room cooking up schemes, and is now to busy working overtime to get out of this mess to portray himself in a better light.

Wow, you guys make it sound like the US is in the toilet and everyone is scowering the streets for bread and water. Isn't everyone still employed living in a free society ?

The day the US becomes a socialist nation, my happy ass will be a Mexican. You all shit your pants thinking the "Patriot Act" took all your freedoms away. Wait till you see what a socialist society will do. Each family will get one 3 bedroom house, not bad, but you will only get one government approved TV, one vehicle, one computer, everyone will be the same. You can't have more than that, that would be the excesses of a capitalist society and under socialism all families have the same. You have to go every morning to you assigned job and do the assigned duties.

                      FUK THAT

Great example of the ignorant fear I was talking about.

Come on over to Western Europe and see if what you say is true.

Actually, what you describe is Communism, which is completely different from Socialism.

At this rate, I'm moving as soon as I finish my degree.

It's either that or start an army...

So you are refering to Scandanavia, Finland, Denmark & Sweden where the average tax burden on EVERYONE is over 50%. Is that the type of socialism you are refeing too? I think I will still pass.

Socialism refers to a broad set of economic theories of social organization advocating state or collective ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods.

I think I was pretty close to the mark.
