Thank you!!! Man is that singer terrible..but All Metallica MUST hear "finger of scorn"..!!!

I know Lars was a huge tape trading metal fan back in the days of Diamond Head, Hollocaust, Angel Witch ect..but Cirith Ungol's "finger of scorn" shaped what we know as CLASSIC Metallica!!

OK - listened to Finger of Scorn... I don't hear it as a real precursor to Metallica... sure, I was half expecting to get the riff from Fade to Black pumping in there, but other than that, the clean stuff actually reminded me more of Sabbath stuff like Spiral Architect and Embryo. I hear more Motorhead in Metallica than Finger of Scorn... but I'm sure they were an influence.

The more I listen to DethMag the more I like it, especially when you can play it loud.

But I listen to the new Megadeth compilation, Set the World Afire (is that like Dave's 6th greatest hits package already?) and that's what I'm digging more, except of course when it comes to Mechanix vs. The Four Horsemen.

And they took stuff from DiamondHead too (and they dont even hide it - they even ripped off the name for the song "Hit the Lights" - "Shoot out the Lights" was a Diamond Head song- Lars even jacked the name of the fukin' Band from a guy who was starting a 'zine). We all know this shit.

But here is the key, they sound better than those other bands, wrote better songs and figured out how to make a guy who cant sing not be so grating on the ears - most if not all of the bands you have listed had something wrong which stopped them from going anywhere, whether it was drive, talent, song writing ability, horrible vocals (pre-1991 Metallica that is - everything they have done between then and this album is crap - no argument there). Horrible vocals alone do in most "real" metal bands. "Cirith Ungol" is apparently no exception to this rule (among others).

BTW - I listened too all the "Cirith Ungol" I could find on youtube and laughed the whole time. At least now i know why I had never heard of this band. LOL! At least GWAR, for instance, has stage presence .

I should not be surprised though. Alot of people didnt like Justice when it first came out. Even more thought the Black album sucked at first.

Alot of people bitched when VH went on tour with Roth but without Mike A. too... .. ..

Can't make everyone happy. I am glad that this time for once, fukin' Metallica made ME (and people I know) happy for a change.

You're not alone. I think Death Magnetic is a great effort.

Speaking of Fade To Black, the heavier part, "no one but me, can save myself, but it's too late..." sounds just like A National Acrobat from Black Sabbath.

                  No it doesn't

It would if Sabbath hadn't used a shuffle rhythm. Come to think of it, the breakdown in Motorbreath sounds exactly like a riff from Rapid Fire by Priest.

We all rip off licks and riffs from other players don't we?

                    True, but it's close enough.

I really like Death Magnetic. Been spinning it tons lately. Suicide & Redemption ranks right up there with the other killer instrumentals of their career. The lyrics to Broken, Beat & Scarred are my new fucking anthem as of late.

+1 ....Beats the hell out of ST.ANGER. If it sounds a little like King Diamond, Slayer and others...maybe it"s because thats the music that inspired them to begin with....You know Stevie Ray Vaughn sounds ALOT like Albert King and Freddie King too! Yet he still is SRV!!!!!!!!!

I got the album last week. I think it is not bad at all. In the end I would be happy with anythin after the St. Anger shit.
