    • yeah one of the bands I tried hard to get into, but along with LoG and others I just can't do it!

to me I'd rather listen to the bands they are trying so hard to mimic and update, it just doesnt work for me.

I can see that. You come off as a guy that likes alot of groove in your music, and Pantera was groovin' even when they were laying down the metal. Darrell wore his EVH influence on his sleeve (everyone talks about Eddie's lead playing, but listen to his rhythm chops! He always grooves his ass off). And of course Vinnie... I've always dug his playing as well. His beats always have a great feel to them.

I saw Pantera in 1992 shortly after VDP came out and it was insane! It was in Hollywood at a theater with balconies running the length of the venue (can't remember the name). I remember Blues Scarceno was up there watching which was pretty cool. I also remember some dude hanging from a cable that ran across the floor from the balcony... I remember wondering how the hell he got there It was a great show. Believe it or not Trouble opened for them.

        • Meh. After that series of posts I cannot put any stock into the opinions of either of you guys(Endrik and SpiralArchitect).

Pantera put out "Cemetary Gates" which is a fantastic song, but the rest of their stuff is mediocre at best to me. Certainly not one of the best bands ever. They wouldn't be so revered if Dime were still here.

CoB is good. Not great, but still pretty good. Certainly not one of the worst bands ever.

that's cool... Dime was a huge Saraceno fan, even tattoed his 2nd album name Plaid on himself... Blues must have been pretty flattered
how was Trouble btw? they have incredible heavy sound live

I disagree. I'm no Pantera fanboy, appreciate what they do but never go into them, but Pantera fans are amongst the more rabid ones out there. They all thought the band was The Greatest even while Dime was around. I don't think his death changed that. It may have deified him to an extent to casual listeners, and brought his music to the attention of people who hadn't previously checked it out. But the true fans have always been that crazy about the band

                I somewhat agree,
Pantera has always had some fucked up fans but after Dime died it got totally out of control, I was somewhat embarrassed to call myself a Pantera fan because all of sudden every fucking douchebag was a diehard fan... I bet a lot of them even hadn't heard much of Pantera's music. Now those fellas are everywhere posting all their crap. Whenever some band/player is mentioned... always one of those guys come up with their "fuck that shit, Dime/Pantera was way better" or something like that... whatever sentence their limited vocabulary allows them to make.... I think I made a similar remark on this thread too btw. I think
That being said... a lot of true Pantera fans are cool folks but those bandwagon jumpers are just a bunch of megalomaniacs with IQ less than 11.
Another cool band which fans can make even the calmest person agitated is Meshuggah.

But nothing beats a Slayer fan... the most annoying douchebags ever. Their vocabulary is a lot worse than any dork who is infected with the "ebonic plague" (or what ever that is) has

                • All I know is that the Biomechanical song linked in this thread sounded exactly like Pantera.

I'm with troy, Pantera has two good songs: Cemetary Gates and Cowboys From Hell. I can't stand Dime's tone. Sure he grooves a lot, but so do 1000s of other guitarists. Also, their fans are some of the most irritating people I've met. They always seem to have a screw loose and enjoy their Bud Light and truck races down at the local tractor-pull venue. No offense to anyone here, this is just what I've observed in my area.

                  • I have so much to say and will conitinue. But I'm in so much fuggin' pain, and in a very bad mood. I can't wait to rip this tooth out. I can't concentrate. Ok, just a couple points. Steve, I can't believe Sacred Reich weren't bigger than they were, but that goes for many bands.. Whoever said Firewind was "hair metal" is dead wrong..that song was just an "accessible" attempt inspired my Gary Moore's/Phil Lynot's "Military man"..prolly as a statement. Nevermore wrote "believe in nothing" 10 years ago and released in 2000, there's a radio edit..their attemp to reach out. When it didn't fly, which is a shame. They said fuggit and continued writing whatever they wanted. Many of these bands such as Therion have been around since the the late 80's. These bands have survived for a long time without exposure..so they're seasoned dudes. These bands have more staying power in the underground as better known bands Slayer, Maiden, Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Pantera and ect..even Iced Earth were from the late 80's..keep this in mind. They held true and never never bend with trends, they outlives all trends. The stuff I've been posting are are very established within their circles, but they seem new to you! Which is why I think this is a good chance to expose them here. I wanted to make a point that new metal wasn't a bunch of growling fucktards..I tried to avoid the harsher vocal stuff. But posted a few to show the difference of a seasoned metal singer and a new trendy hack that just got lucky..because talent had little to do with it. Its about image and being marketable...which always changes. Not Metal...that's the whole point of metal.

I just touched the surface, there is much more..great singers such as Mats levin, Jorn Lande, Oliver Hartman and ect..I'll get to all of them. I'll gradually post all styles of all true metal. I just started, so be patient..or post them yourselves like some of you are doing. BTW I posted a vid from Griffin..Alexi Laiho is in that vid..but he's pretty well hidden. You can easily hear him trading solos tho. So any Alexi fans may want to check that out again. I'm not thrilled with COB's direction since their popularity but they're still planted in metal. He's a little A-ho, but a very gifted player IMO! He's also been around for a very long time and has been in black metal bands when he was younger.

I love Pantera, and Dime is a influece. We come from the same school of shred. But is metal Pantera just can't do..so, everything has its place...and Dime was a HUGE metal fan, just like me!!!

C - There is NOTHING wrong having your favorite
player..alot of us do. Eddie was mine..Uli still is god..and Jeff Loomis is my favorite metal player to date. BUT there is music they can't write..So, its all good man.

Nobody needs to get mad or pissy. We're all good dudes with a common love for music. I'm sharing mine, and making my points. Someone could say Jeff Loomis sucks the dick..ok, whatever. That doesn't change a thing for me. Everyone is not going to agree on the same shit. That's why we have wars. But music isn't reason for battle..even tho it may be very personal.

So far this is thread is rolling exactly how it should..and you guys rule! Be nice.

I'll be back..maybe today or tomorrow.

BTW Fuck the typos..I can't even see straight.

                      • Biomechanical is influenced by Pantera..they don't sound like them. Pantera is certainly more cohesive and groove orieneted and not as complex. They're a newer talent, not one of my faves but worth a mention. I'm doing this on the fly..grabbing whatever I come across. They just happened to be there. They have a different singer, I'm not thrilled with their second cd. I like that singer because he mixed the old and new pantera vocal thing together. Anselmo sang like that earlier and CBFH "Shattered" but barking ever since, for the most part. Ripper wished he could scream and bark like that. John C wanted Tim to do some of that..but he can't. So he's does Ringworm to get his "heavier" fill. Everything has its place...except trends..I hate 'em!

+1.....Slayer fans are by and large the most closed minded metal fans I've encountered....They're not interested in hearing anything else, they just want the same old same old Reign In Blood over, and over, and over, and over....Which is good, cuz that's what Slayer's been putting out since the '80's, and why I can't get into them, ZERO musical growth, just bring out the template and cut some more.....
I'm not into hell.........I just dig the soundtrack.........
