    Really, Mr.Endrik? I find the exact opposite yet the same. I don't like terribly many North American bands but I quite enjoy my European bands. I don't know what it is. I might be that I hear way too many NA bands and I'm the only person at my school that listens to mainly real metal. I just find Scandinavian metal, and European music in general, to be much more melodic, which is a big must for me. It's interesting how geographical location can affect what music you like.

    On another note: It was hat day recently at my school. How this fits into the Metal Vs. Trends theme is strange but just keep reading. Anywho, I went to school and noticed a sizable majority of the self-proclaimed "metalhead" kids were wearing fedoras. I pondered for a while as to why they were wearing them when suddenly it hit me; they're all Avenged Sevenfold fans. The point of this is that I think it is sad that they dress like that(I also noticed some heavy make-up...eww) so that they feel that they are cool. It drives me crazy how people seem to think metal is about dressing up to look "the part". To me, metal is music and in a way, a lifestyle. It's not a fad that you have to dress like a clown to be a fan of. I have no problem with jeans, leather jackets and the t-shirts(heck, I wear some of that stuff) but when it gets to the point where you only wear a certain thing because "X" player does, it's no longer metal; it's a fad created by a record company to make money and that definitely isn't what being a metaller is about.

    Mr. Misfit dude, if you like Wintersun and Kalmah, I can guarantee you'll like Ensiferum. It's Jari from Wintersun's old band.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j345T2-Vs8I (Second Favourite)

    Edit: Oh, and Iron is in my top 5 albums of all time. It's viking/kinda-happy-sounding qualities make it so I can listen to it over and over (and over and over) again without getting bored.

    Double edit: Ever heard of Norther? Petri(the guitar/vocalist dude is the current frontman of Ensiferum)

    Triple Edit: For your early Metallica-type stuff, check out Evile. Mr. Matt from them posts on here. It's some solid stuff.

    Wow, GS, that's a very complicated yet interesting story. It's good that it brought you here.

    I just came here because I was bored and I had given up on UG. I couldn't find anything worth posting there because it would all be nullified by little ignorant 13-year-olds who bandwagon jump every 8 seconds and tell you to get X guitar and Y amp so you could sound like (Fill in player name here).:dunno:

    Horns666 and VitaminG;
    I've not heard of any of those bands, but enjoyed the vids very much. I'll be sure to do some Youtube searches for the other suggestions to be sure.

    I'm like a 14yr old again! All this new metal reminds me of the days back in '71 with my best bud,{Still to this day.} listening to obscure "Heavy" music, as it was called then, on my sister's new Sony Receiver, Wharfdale speakers and Dual turntable. Taste, Zep, Deep Purple, which led to Sabbath, Lucifers Friend, Budgie, Uli era Scorpions, UFO. I tend to lean towards the European side of metal. Schenker was a big influence on me.

    Don't get me wrong. I quite like good ol' American metal as well, The Rods, Riot, Elf among my favourites. I was also a wannabe Kiss army fan! Be that as it may, British/European bands were my favoured style of metal for learning and listening.

    I must say that joining JCF has been an eye opener for me. JCF has been one of the three catalysts that got my enzymes reactivated. The other two being Limewire and the Finnish band Nightwish.

    Limewire:
    Click on the genre of choice and a whole pile of new, unheards of stuff comes up. Nightwish??!??!?? Who the h#ll are they? This led to an interest in Chick Goth Metal; Most of which are based in Europe. Which led to:

    Nightwish:
    Funnily enough, after two weeks of fun on Limewire, I happened to see a poster of Nightwish playing here. WTF?!?!?? I had to go. After seeing them, I decided to get their latest CD, Dark Passion Play.
    While jamming along on a couple of tunes with my Charvel Model 4, the issue with the Kahler came up. This then led me to;

    JCF:
    Solely responsible for the purchase of; 4 new guitars, 3 used guitars, 2 amps, 4 pups, an urge to play them all, and an open door to new metal bands and technically gifted young players.
    Need I say more?
    Cheers and a big thanks guys!
    G.

    Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, I went to a NAMBLA meeting to see if it was true metal wearing spandex, bandanas and wrestling boots. They hurt my bum and made me feel bad about myself.

    Finally!!!! I found what Tuna is!!!! It WAS in fact(and still is) a town in Sweden.

    So it turns out that they aren't, in fact, singing a bunch of gibberish. Who'd a thought that?

    The town was named after a monk and they added Tuna later on.

    Keep posting the vids. So many artists and bands I've not heard before.

    Dream Evil, Black Tide, Firewind? Those bands really speak to me. Not so much the DEATH or BLACK metal. I like some of it just fine, till the vocals kick in.

    I'm a fan of AOR as well; Whitesnake, TNT, House Of Lords, and similar types. However, that TigerNailz and all those other pretty boy hair bands influenced by the Poison image and sound? No thanks!
    dude, check out Masterplan, Pink Cream 69, Last Tribe, Brainstorm, Conception. I'd provide vids, but at work and don't have time to trawl for them for you. But trust me......
