Phillup, that's so damn true right there! "See if it works or smokes" Wouldn't that be cool to have?
For the most part I try to continue to either call it metal or non metal. The term metal is too broad anymore and the name metal is almost a whore in some respects.
Ever hear the term 'Classic Metal'? I guess that's what they call the metal from the late 70' (nwobhm) and early to mid 80's.
Cool with me man, I'll go with that! It differentiates and makes a statement leaving no confusion.
core isn't supposed to be metal... core comes from punk... first there was hardcore (punk on steroids) then there was grindcore and then all the other stuff
I remember when it was just called metal but there are so many sub genres now I'm not sure what came from where. Pop Metal, Top 40 metal, Death Metal, black Metal, Doom Metal, Thrash metal, speed metal and I thought I heard rap metal. Bill Z. has used the term "True Metal" What sub genres will fit into this category?
metalcore isn't supposed to be metal? I get so confused....
no, it's modern hardcore (very bad I might say) mixed with metal elements.... if a fusion of hardcore and metal should be metal... then you get thrash metal...

For the record I saw pantera in 1988, 20 freakin years ago! I'm still impressed!
I was on the motley crue wagon in the day as well, metal? Who cares <shrugs>
Slayer had a non metal moment of their own with that cover of "Born to be wild".
Other than that I'd have to agree with you. Sabbath will always be my fav though!
