Is Trivium METAL ?

I dig Trivium. Haven't heard the new stuff, but the Crusade disc is killer - IMO.

They fit the label of metal rather than any other genre, but whether you like them is another story. They are sort of like the Nickelback of metal in that they seem to be rather generic in style. Not as successful as Nickelback though, but they are bland enough to maybe catch on with the lowest common denominator of American rock fans.

I liked Ascendency, loved The Crusade. I've been listening to the new overly hyped CD for the past week and it's just not doing much for me. I don't think they have a clue in what direction to go, metalcore vs. more traditional metal. The new CD just doesn't have much soul. Too much metalcore growly vocals and a serious lack of memorable headbanging riffs.
