I don't think Jeremy owes us any explanation, this is his board and I appreciate the use of it. I became a Platinum member just because of all the help I've gotten in the tech Forum alone, it's saved me alot of $$$ in guitar repairs and setups, I really don't care about the extra privileges, I feel I get my money's worth. As far as ads go I won't buy anything from anybody who is not a sponsoring dealer.
Don't forget the corn. It's nutritious, delicious, and ribbed for her pleasure.

I bet he'll jump right on that explanation once he gets your Platinum Membership dues!

I don't think anybody has any issues with the ads themselves, just the fact that they suddenly popped up out of nowhere. I thought maybe the site had been hacked or something.

As far as obtrusiveness, it would be nicer if they were at the top or bottom rather than the middle of the posts, but as somebody who enjoys the site for free it will hardly stop me from visiting.

I haven't paid because I don't think the benefits are worth it and I would like to see where my money is going.

It will be very interesting to see how many people renew their memberships.

Oh, and simply adding *.googlesyndication.com to IE's restricted sites list got rid of the ads. No, I don't have to click on them, but they break up the flow of a thread.

It's his board... he can do whatever he wants with it.
I paid my membership fee because I feel I'm getting something in return.
Even if it took a little while to get it it.

But hey... can't fault the guy for trying to make a buck.
While I may not agree with him on a lot of things, this is certainly not one of them.
Last time I checked, this is still a free country.
Don't like the ads... buy a membership or just ignore them.
You're free to leave at any time.

Balls... both of you must have a huge set.
Posting a method to basically take away a revenue stream for the very site you are enjoying for free.

What's funny is TheTroy was a Platinum member and got voted out of his status but not banned from the forum. I predict he'll be seeing a suspension soon.

Ads seem to have disappeared for me now?

Google AdSense only pays when you click on one of the links. Simply viewing them doesn't give the website any income.

+1. If there will be ads, don't do ones where you have to click to get money for the site. I don't have the time of day or patience for it. I would likely leave them be if just viewing them gave the site money. Doesn't Yahoo work that way?

I think the forum goes well past the 3 gigs a month. That's why he had to move it from a JCF member hosting it on a machine for free to paying for hosting. I think you also have to pay extra to have a compatable server to run a forum like this.
