What's funny is TheTroy was a Platinum member and got voted out of his status but not banned from the forum. I predict he'll be seeing a suspension soon.

I doubt very much the forum is on its own server, more likely it's a shared hosting platform. vBulletin needs PHP and a backend MySQL DB from memory. The smallest package that ChicagoWebs offers that has the prerequisites is the Corporate package at $49.95/month. So you're looking at $599.40 just for hosting alone. The forum licensing and support are on top of that again. Plus time spent configuring, theming, etc.

As for the bandwith used, who knows? But if it's going over the whatever limit it has there will also be charge for that excess. It soon mounts up.

Edit -- oops people commented when I was typing. If it's on it's own dedicated host then you're in a different league price wise, cheapest one is $199/month. So $2388 a year.

3 things:

One, I chose to go Platinum because this site has been an enormous help to me.

Two, I hope he gets fucking filthy rich running this site. I hope he can quit any job-type-job he has. I hope he's up to his asshole in money & that it's only getting deeper. Would my life be happier somehow if I found out he was living in a crackhouse with no money, updating this site as a labor of love, and eating cat food?

I'd have to be a pretty miserable person to basically wish him failure here.

And 3- I *would* like to know if he only gets paid for click, because I'll throw a few clicks in there every couple days to help the guy out. Fuckin guy found a way to monetize other people's guitar obsessions. Good for him.

Just logged out to see what the big deal is. I've seen much worse on other sites. Whatever it takes to keep the place up & running is fine with me. I agree w/ what Vass said earlier wrt to clicking on some links. I'll probably log out & click a few occasionally if it'll help out. Pretty funny to see an ad for some Michael Jackson crap, though.
