A good high powered pelet rifle should do the trick. Pump up pelet rifles don't count as firearms. I've used mine for whacking various critters in my back yard.

Why kill it? Trap the critter and relocate him to remote area away from people.

Subsonic .22 loads is what my buddy in Memphis uses...no one's the wiser and the neighborhood is minus 5-6 of them in the last year...

If that's a no-go, the easier way is to mix a tin of snuff with a can of cat food and leave it out for them. They'll disappear for a good amount of time after THAT tasty treat!
