    I've had it, im at my wits end....*custom order gone bad*

    As some of you may have read int he past, last year in early November I had placed an order with luthier Christopher Woods.

    Anyhow, I sent him a Ibanez guitar that I had bought off Jemsite (800$ prestige)

    He was going to do up a custom neck.

    A few months later, it was done, but it didnt fit the body of the guitar I had sent (he told me to send him the body so he could make it work)

    So I took the blow and got him to do me up a abody as well....

    One year later, it's done. I had asked for some features to be done, and they werent. I complained, he said he would send me back everythign original and my money back.... IN THIS PROCESS, I have sent him over 70 emails, and received that many back.

    It's been terrible. Sometimes 1-2 weeks for a simple reply. Anyhow, right now he is not even answering my emails. He doesnt have a contact phone number anymore (he changed it a while back)

    I cant get a hold of him, and he has a 200$ deposit, and my 800$ guitar.

    It's been one year, im out 1000$ and I have sent him emails from other accounts to see if he is "around". If its in regards to a new sale, he will answer the email.

    Mine get rejected apparently. Im a reasonable guy, I have 134+ feedback on Ebay with no negs. A lot of you know im a decent guy, but in this case, im losing sleep over it. Im furious and want answers, and I dont get ANYTHING. I HAVE NUMEROUS EMAILS saying "it will be done right away", "or one more week" from months ago.

    I still dont get anything.

    Im at my wits end, and I dont know what to do.......

    Guys on Jemsite have received work from him, and he has lots of orders on his page, but lots of others have cancelled for these same reasons....


    What can I do?!? Anybody live near Covina Cali and wanna pick up my guitar, I'll give you whatever Cash you want.

    I want an answer, and I want my guitar I paid for.

    I cant sleep at night I get so anxious/angry over it all........

    by the way, I have sent him a few emails lately that have not received reply. I made a fake email account and sent him and email and he was right on it in regards to selling his custom line...

    I truly think I may be out 1000$ Maybe he has nothing to send me as he may have sold off my other guitar and used my deposit to finance some new router or something :S

    It's easy to rip off the guy in Canada, but a small part of me is considering using my vacation to pay him a visit.

        Ah, good ol' Chris Woods. Yes, I'm a Jemsite member too so I know his background.

        Besides the option the Newc suggested, have you considered involving law enforcement and/or an attorney in the situation? I know will probably mean more money but at the very least you can file a criminal complaint.

        Seriously though, what other options do you have at this point? Either he has you over a barrel or you take the initiative and put him on the defensive.

        On a side note, I'm sick of custom luthiers/painters that pull this shit but the way I look at it, when you go to do business with these folks, you need to be prepared to knock on their door if the deal turns sour.

          I know of at least one other guy like that who also hangs out on jemsite

            Yup - I'd be knockin' on his door for sure. Just don't do anything stupid. Have your supporting documentation with you and if he doesn't cooperate, go to the local magistrate and file a criminal complaint.

              I would involve the authorities. Knocking on the guy's door is NOT a good idea and walks a fine line between getting your guitar back and having things go very very wrong.

                Wouldn't you having sent the guy your guitar then constitute mail fraud? Which as I understand it is a Fedral offence....

                    He was online checking his my space on the 11th. Put a message on there. Maybe he switched ISPs? Or maybe your guitars been smoked in a glass pipe already?

                      How about making a Myspace page and friending as many of his friends as possible, then sending out a bulletin to all of them about how he's taken your money and now won't talk to you?

                      Then file a complaint with the authorities in West Covina and with the California Better Business Bureau. Go to Jemsite and start a thread about him blowing you off. Make as big a stink in as many places as possible.

                      That sucks, man, you just can't seem to win with your custom thing. Sorry to hear this.

                              Haha, glad to see you pop in LEx. Even more impressed to see you remember my woes

                              I sent him an email with a "clever" subject. He did reply. The guy is VERY tough to deal with, but originally when i placed the order, the email updates were fast and furious. In the new year, he picked up so many orders that it's beyond control for him..

                              He prioritises the ordering, but once its in place, theres no feedback and no rush to get you your order....

                              Anyhow, if nothing by next week, Im creating a web page with all my email claims/pictures/testimonials from other people and sending it to him stating that I'll post it on every search page, guitar message board, etc. As well as filing claims with every place I can think of.

                              If im going to be out 1000$, im going out with a BANG!!!

                              Either way. Worst consumer experience of my life, I really regret how things have turned out. Off the bat, it was great, but it soured when he "started growing". HE wont have ANY orders if he keeps up his currnet pace. A lot of people have cancelled with him.....


                              off the record..... he's a nice guy, which makes it more difficult. Theres personal, and then there is business, and I hate to be a total jackass to a nice guy, but he has insulted me as a customer....
