You must really hate slayer Martin.

I will say, I agree that Megadeth stomps all of their asses in.

But this is refreshing to hear after Shit Magnetic and St. Shitger, because Slayer sounds like Slayer and it never changes.

I dont hate Slayer. I think South of Heaven is up there with the best metal albums of all time. Like Metallica, I love their early work.
Megadeth, for me, only peaked on Rust In Peace - pretty much everything else has been second rate, until United Abominations really blew me away with the guitars.

"Slayer always sound like Slayer" is simply not true in the way you mean. They sound the same ever since Divine Intervention, and, unfortunately, it's poor. They HAVE changed their style over the years - nothing they've done since Seasons has sounded like what they've done in recent years.

South Of Heaven is a great album, but I thought Megadeth climaxed at Peace Sells and kept going strong till Cryptic as far as music writing goes. They changed a little bit but their musicianship was all there. Their new album was great as well, I think their upcoming album will be even better.

I think Slayer does always sound like Slayer and that's why most people still love them.

i totally agree with martin, I'm a huge deth fan myself and when you really get into them and the riffs all the other 80's thrash bands become second rate in comparison. What deth have that the others don't is melody.
This slayer tune is really crap as a song but is great for the metalheads that still want to mosh up and down to a fast beat.

I think most of us will agree that Megadeth is the dominant band of the thrash scene.

I just bought a Kelly. It made me revisit the Megadeth albums Marty was on, plus Marty's solo stuff.

                Rust In Peace is flawless.
Countdown is okay, Marty's solos are great. But the sound is thin and the songs are pretty poor.
Youthanasia is a pile of shit. Listen to it again now - it's so commercial, much worse than Load or Reload, and the songs are shite.
Cryptic Writings was a favourite of mine, but on listening to it now, it lacks the instrumental parts of old Megadeth. It's poor.

Risk was at least an open admission to commercialism, not a kid on at modern thrash. So it's easier to take the songs for what they are. ANd they're way better than the ones on Youthanasia.

United Abominations was the first album since RIP that had true duelling guitar solos and trade offs. And it fucking rocked.

It changes though. I thought Anthrax's WCFYA was an amazing album, while The System Has Failed was total and utter shite. Slayer have been boring for years, and Metallica, for a thrash band, well haven't been a thrash band since 1988.

Of the big four Anthrax and Megadeth have been the only contenders, and 'thrax are clearly assholes losing both their singers. So, yeah Megadeth are the dominant band, but not through quality.

I forgot about WNAH, I do like that album, Pitrelli's leads were cool. But for heavy guitar overdose, RIP and UA beat anything they've done.

I love my KE2, and Marty is my favorite lead guitarist hands down.

Rust in Peace is one of the greatest albums ever written, but I think Peace Sells has a little bit of an edge.

I thought the tone on Countdown and Youthanasia are some of the best metal tones ever. It's why I got a 2150 and a +3 preamp.

I thought both of the albums were decent but definitely not up to part with their older stuff, but Mustaine still knew how to write music.

I love cryptic, it's better than CtE and Youth to me.

I do like Cryptic, but it really lacks guitar work. Yeah that might sound odd, but listen to it again. The solos are barely there. Considering Marty Friedman was in the band, why wouldn't you use him to the full?
                          No wonder he left.

Now you're going too far, UA is a great album but it's nowhere near the intensity of their first few albums and Drover's leads are lacking.

i dont listen to megadeth for the heavy metal if that makes sense. I have Pantera for that!
I listen to megadeth for the great song writing and riffage, which is apparent on every album of theirs. IMO all the albums rock, some better than others but they all have weak songs on them somewhere.
Hidden Treasures is a great little album...
Then you got the japanese released songs...coming home/duke nukem/new world order, well worth getting hold of..
Anyway this is a slayer thread not deth, so someone make a megadeth thread so we can talk about them there lol

Marty didn't leave because he wasn't being "used."

Marty left because he liked horrible music and realized that no one liked Risk, which was the music he wanted to keep playing. He said it in multiple interviews.
