It's a 93 coupe I bought new back in August of 93 and currently has a tick under 19000 original miles. It's your typical heads, cam, intake supercharger combo that makes these things run pretty good. At the time (8 years ago) it dyno'd 547rwhp at Anderson Ford Motorsport with a GT40 intake, 65mm tb, shorty headers and Flowmaster's. Since then I went with a performer RPM2 intake, 75mm tb, long tubes and Bassani mufflers. Took some boost out of the car but with those changes it still feels as strong or maybe a bit stronger. The pic is a bit older and now has a set of charcoal grey Bullit rims for cruising around town instead of the Prostars. Next year I'd like to build a real motor and maybe get this high 10 second heap into the 9's, but family life and two little kids come first so I'll see what happens. I'll see if I can rustle up some of the more current pics. What's your combo like?

      That's a nice '93 notchback dude!
I always liked the coupes a little better, and they are lighter too and have a stronger roof/back half, which is good for racing.
10's is not bad at all for what little you've done to it. Does it have a full interior?

That's a nice Cobra there as well AK47! Me like that!
I'd love to have a new Black GT 5 speed....someday soon!

You know if you want one the time to buy a GT500 is now or later this year. The price are below MSRP if you shop around. With the new unglier body style coming out in 2010 these will hold their value very well. 2009 production has stopped for the Shelbys I hear and they made only 3000 this year.

The 07 Tungten silver coupe like mine are official sold out except for 2 convertibles. I am happy I got 0% financing so I can make payments and not worry about trying to pay off early. They only did that on all Ford models including the gt500 for about 3 weeks and then stopped the special.

Yep, full factory interior and options. The only thing I have taken out of the car is the AC just because I didn't use it, plus it cleaned the engine bay up a bit. Although the pic shows a different story, I didn't build it to be a drag only car. I didn't ever want to gut the car as I knew the primary use was to be street driven, so keeping the power options, cruise and tunes were a must. Probably my biggest regret so far has been going with a 8pt cage vs a 6 or 8 point bar.

I bought my 93 LX coupe in Feb 1997. Wasn't particularly looking for a car but this one caught my eye at a used car lot. Black LX coupe with 5.0 emblems and no sun roof, I hate sun roofs! I stopped to look and it was a 5 speed low mileage car and bone stock, unmolested. I even got a hold of its former owner. Anyway, I immediately had big plans for it I yanked the original drivetrain and still have that in the corner of my garage. The car got upgraded with frame connectos, jacking rails, torque box re-inforcements and 6 point weld in roll bar. Replaced the front seats with racing seats and 5 way harnesses. Replaced the 8.8 rear with a braced 9" housing and 4.11 gears with 31 spline Strange axles and Detroit Locker with an N case with billet steel caps. The trans is a Tremec 5 speed with Motorsport clutch and Centerforce pressure plate, Lakewood scattershield, Swarr trans girdle and Pro 5.0 shifter. The motor is my own home brewed 302 Features a Mexican 302 block, Boss 302 steel crank and rods, and the forged flat top pistons, Crane hydraulic roller cam, TFS Street Heat cast iron heads and GT40 intake, 75mm throttle body. The exhaust recently got changed from shorties to Kook's long tubes and x pipe. The blower is a Vortech S-trim and the front suspension got changed to UPR tubular stuff and coil overs. Initially I had a Motorsport EPEC system in it for enging management but I knew little about using that so it recently got changed to the factory computer and burned an SCT chip for it. The motor is actually very mild and the heads are pretty much unported. With more agressive intake, porting and boost this thing could unleash tons of power but its pretty brutal right now. Its stored away for winter now but next spring we'll see what it'll do at the strip with some slicks. On the street its loud but has great street manners, fires up on the first turn of the key and ldles fine

I only have a few months to go and my 04 Mystichrome Cobra will be paid off so can't buy anything before then. I've always loved the traditional Shelby white with blue stripes but also like the opposite blue with white stripes. Last year I saw black with red stripes and that looked pretty aggressive too Eventually I will add one in the garage.
BTW, I have seen an 04 Cobra recently on a chassis dyno which had the factory blower switched out with a Kenne-Bell and small shot of nitrous and that thing put down 700+ hp to the rear wheels These blown Cobras and Shelbys have tons of potential in them

Sound like a really nice setup, do you have any pics of the car? I also like that you kept the 5 speed in the car. Mine is also a stick and makes driving it much more fun. I had a few buddies throw C4's into thier cars, but at that point you kill the ability to drive any faster than 45mph unless you're on it. If I decided to ever go with an auto it would be a Lentech AOD, but that's a big $$ swap if done right.

I have none of the creature comforts on my car, yet it has a full interior for now.
No power steering, brakes, windows, and no radio. I have been thinking about removing the interior except for the headliner. I just like the "gutted" look. It has that Drag Car image.
I have sub frame connectors, but no cage yet.
I have alot of traction problems, so I sometimes dump it in second gear when I dont wanna burn the tires off. Sometimes if I ride the clutch out @ 2,000 I can get it going in 1st gear w/ minimal traction loss.

I'm using 5 leafs on the right and 4 on the left, and I have them clamped on every leaf to help get rid of the wrap up. It works great but it rides like a rock.
I have no idea how much it weighs, or what it does in the 1/4, but I would guess it to be mid 11's realistically. Possibly lower with good tires.

This is probably one of the best threads on here in a long time! Nice to shoot the shit with some fellow Ford guys!

Nice Maverick Metalchurch. You have the same problem as us Fox body guys where all the weight is on the front end. Add a stick into the equasion and it's tire roasting time. Probably the best option if you don't get caught in the rain is a set of D.O.T drag radials like the BF Goodrich or Mickey Thompsom ET street radials. Those are my favorite since they don't require running tubes and IMO hook the best of the bunch. Nitto's are better than a standard radial, but nowhere in the same league as the BFG or M/T's.

It's pretty impressive what those 4 valve Cobra motor can take power wise. Those motors are in a different league compared to the good old pushrod 5.0's in stock form. I'd really like to pick up a new GT at some point, but I know I can't leave well enough alone and one money pit is enough for now.

I don't currently have pix of it on my computer but have some engine shots, and recently exhaust and fuel system shots since I'm going to be writing an article about those for Fastest Street Car Magazine I'll dig up a shot of it on the dyno.
The stick is a lot of fun and now that the car is dyno tuned with a chip in the computer, it revs so quickly that shifting the Tremec is a challenge. Friends are advising me to go with a C4 but I really want to keep the stick. An AOD is heavy and exensive. Would love to eventually swap in a Jerico 4 speed as I really don't care much about OD. As soon as I get something finished on this car another project needs to begin, it never ends

I'm partial to the drag race features myself. Ditched the AC, power steering, power brakes, radio and antenna. In place of the radio I used a 93 Cobra R radio delete plate and cut an opening in it to fit a wide band O2 meter. It looks like it came from the factory with it
Oh, and for your rear leaf springs you might want to consider some Caltracs. Those are th hot setup for most leaf spring cars running in NMCA. These were invented years ago by Super Stock racer John Calvert for use on his 68 Mustang. Rules didn't allow four links, ladder bars, etc... so he came up with these. Along with sticky tires and the right shock you could launch that car

Even though I have some Mod Motored cars myself, you can't beat the pushrod motor if your a driveway tinkerer for sheer simplicity. I recently rode in a Fox body Mustang that is powered by a 392W stroker motor and a turbo. It made nearly 900 rear wheel horsepower and has nice street manners to boot. If I were to modify a Mod motor I'd start with the Cobra/Shelby, the power potential on these seems to be way ahead of the 2 and 3 valve GT motors.
Either way, as you said money pit indeed. The old saying goes "Speed costs money son, how fast do you want to go?"

I agree Roody, fuck those slush boxes! I will never own another automatic even though they are the most consistent. 4 speeds are more fun to drive and I like to be in control of what my car is doing.
+1 on the Jerico 4 speed too!
I'm running a Wide Ratio Toploader with a Hurst V-Gate inline shifter, but if and when money permits I will be going the Jerico route.

Been seriously considering using my other 1970 Cleveland block for a 377 or 383 stroker. I'd like to keep it with the standard 4.000 bore, because Clevelands have a thin wall as you know.
I run Clevelands because I like to be different, even though I'm well aware of the fact that 302's and Windsors are cheaper to build and there's more available for them.

As far as my traction problems, I'm gonna throw the battery in the trunk and put a fiberglass Grabber hood and 'glass fenders on it in the Spring time. There's some other things that I want to try as well.

I saw a bolt in independant rear set-up for old Mustangs that's basically like the SN-95's I believe? I'd like to keep it leafed though, cause I'm old school!
Gotta try those drag radials too. I did air the tires down to 20psi and that helped a shit load, but I cant drive around like that...
Maybe buy some candy and lure some fat chicks in the car for traction?:ROTF:
