The only drawback I can think of with a weapon in the house, is that you (or wife if that is the case), need to be able to maintain control/possession of the weapon if it is ever pulled for any reason. You don't want to provide an intruder/adversary with a weapon unintentionally
May not be an easy thing if the guy is off his rocker and the wife is not prepared for that type of physical challenge.
Just sayin'....
PS: I do have a CCW permit in CT, so I'm not sayin' not to get one

Aren't you allowed to get a CCW if a Sheriff approves it? I would bring this up to him, and confirm that the police isn't do anything about it and you have no other choice. In the future though I need to remember to not buy guitars while on Nyquil

Yeah, concealed/carry is out of the question in California - the police unions actively endorse anti-gun candidates - if every one was packing heat, I'm guessing it would be bad for "business" - so I have never heard of anyone receiving a permit in California - I guess that makes us really "enlightened", like New York City, huh? :ROTF:
As for keeping cool under fire and being able to pull the trigger...well, you don't have to worry about that...
So far, no visits since the restraining order has been served...who knows, maybe it worked???
Yeah, right...Crime doesn't pay. Neither does lutherie...

Unfortunately, once it comes out, you have to have the wherewithal to use it. If you don't have the mindset to use it, tables could be quickly turned against you.
Then they rush you while you're in disbelief and disarm you if you don't recover fast enough.Ron is the MAN!!!!

Yeah, right...
That movie is pure proof that restraining orders are fucking useless.

Well, hopefully this wraps up this thread...
We did get a temp restraining order against this clown, and when my wife and neighbor's wife show up in court to get it extended to the 3 year max, the dude sends a lawyer and his parents (?!) to represent him, and asks for a continuance to January 7th. Great - I have to hire a lawyer now...fortunately, I'm buddies with a good one who's a partner in his firm to represent us. So the 7th arrives, and my guy chews up and spits out the other guy, we get the order, and also have mandatory psych evals every 6 months and med checks to make sure he is taking them added to the order.
So, in a nutshell, I'm out ~$2K in legal fees, $1K in materials for the fence I have to install across my backyard (not to mention 5 weekends of wasted time - SO FAR!), and have a frazzled family on my hands.
This whole thing was a real eye-opener to our legal system - victims are nothing in our country, and perps can hide behind all sorts of defenses, whether they be privacy rights, supposed mental probs, etc. If there is one thing I am thankful for, is that no one got hurt...although my .40 is now a permanent house member now... - I really hope for the psycho's sake he gets the help he needs...Crime doesn't pay. Neither does lutherie...

Well... Glad it's worked out to the extent it has... Ouch on the expenditures. I suppose, that is better than someone getting hurt tho.
Sadly, Kalifornia is seriously pro "rights" for criminals in many odd ways... So yes, the victims don't seem to have much in the way of rights. Not sure that is what they intended.
I supposed at some point, a person might be thankful for those criminal oriented rights if they got twisted up in some BS that might really screw them otherwise, and they really were victims of circumstance. I suppose that is what Kali really meant to do.
Shame it really does tie up law enforcement and normal citizens as far as what they can do in some circumstances. Their gun laws and self defense laws are whack... Not unlike quite a few other states in the northeast.
I'm seriously thankful we have recently got the ability to carry concealed weapon w/permits approved, and particularly, the castle law/doctrine going in Ohio. We now have a LOT of leeway in defending our home, our property, and most imortantly ourselves at home and in our cars. No problems here shooting burglars, trespassers on our property that are attempting to hurt us as well as carjakers/robbers.
I'd definitely get the wife onboard with some comprehensive firearm training so she will be able to take care of things should you not be avaiable. I'd also look into getting the kids onboard with gun safety and knowledge. Not sure what you level of training is, but believe me, you can easily learn a lot that will save your ass, and there is a lot of that training going on out in Cali. People that haven't had real training, don't have a lot to fall back on when the shit really hits the fan and you are running on instinct. Under stress situations like that, you lose a tremendous amount of fine muscle control/coordination, as well as being able to really think things out effectively.
Some serious training, will walk you through that stuff and will give you something instinctual to fall back on when every thing else is falling apart. That sort of training is actually quite fun as well. Just a thought that I wanted to mention.
Good luck with things! Keep us posted!

I'm glad things are at least going in the direction you would like.
The problem I have with the laws - and this is in most states - concerns the mentally ill. I don't understand why they cannot be forced to take their meds when it is clear that they are a danger to both themselves and others around them if they fail to do so. It seems as though their right to continue to be crazy trumps society's right to be safe from insane individuals. You sir, can go you fuck yourself and don't let the door hit you in the vagina on the way out.
You're such a pretencious, phony, boring, transparent, self righteous worthless fuck..You are amusing as a genital wart!
