Bill, I have a lot of respect for you. I see people who are basically turning into what you described everyday. I go to an upper-middle class school where most of the students have been told they are the best their whole lives so if something sets them off or they are insulted, they go nuts. They don't understand that there is consequences to their actions. I too hate going places unless I need to. I mean hanging out with friends and stuff I like doing but there's a reason I will not go to Walmart, malls or any of those places anymore. The only place I go shopping is the music store for guitar stuff and Futureshop because it's only a block away so I walk there in the morning once in a while. You did what you had to. Who knows what could have happened if you had remained passive. In school we're taught to try and talk people out of fighting but there definitely are situations where that just wouldn't work. Once people get past a certain point there's no talking them out of things. Society in general is just stupid. All people do anymore is reward mediocrity and people who deserve to be awarded don't get it. People don't why I try in school when I can just scrape by like everyone else. They only seem to focus on looking "cool" and that everything else is secondary. The mindset for modern society seems to be "focus on now, the future isn't important". People only seem to care about the immediate future and not a year or two in advance. Evidence of this would be the housing issue in my city. People have payed more than double the normal price for houses here just so they can make some quick cash. They take out 50 year mortgages. Do they really think that it will still be just as profitable here in 5 years, let alone 50?

I've never really fit into modern society but in all honesty, I don't want to.

back to the ju-jitsu thing, same with kung-fu, aikido, karate... sparring with a high level of knowledge in any martial art is incredible. both to watch and participate. when it comes to bar/street fights, they're mostly useless, because for the majority of the time you'll have to fight dirty when the shit hits the fan. what it DOES, it prepares you for the fight, prepares you to react the right way and not get disoriented when they land a punch on you.. oh and knowing how to kick and punch with minimal damage to you is also useful .. and where to punch :P ok, so they're not THAT useless hehehe. havent been in a fight in an ass long time .. and dont intend to get into any
