  • Sold a Rhoads, orderred a new amp....FINALLY!!!

So, anyone who knows me or has seen my complaints about my sound knows I've been in need of a good "live" amp since my 5150 went down just over a year ago. My home amp/backup Spider II 150 made me want to vomit every time I played it out, and unfortunately until the new amp comes I still have to suffer at least for tonight's gig but we don't play out again till new years eve....hopefully I'll have it by then.

To finance my buy, I sold my RR5 w/case to my bassist for (don't choke on your tongues) $350....and no it wasn't trashed, it was just a real BRO deal. Anyways, I'm getting the Bugera 6262 head thru a close friend who has a Bugera endorsement so I really don't know how long the wait will be. Once the amp comes in, I'll put it thru the brutal live tests and will give a full review here as I know everyone is at least a little interested in how these things will hold up in a regular gigging application.

    I'll keep you all posted.

It's more of a 5150II knockoff. But the cleans and the EQ are way better from what I've been told. Can't wait to beat the crap out of it myself for a real opinion instead of heresay.

UGH!!!! Makes me sick. I'm still sitting on it. It's f'd! None of the controls do what they're supposed to. I'll just state the main issue. The pre gain on the lead channel starting from 0 is a mushy creamy UGLY distorted sound....turn to 5 it gets blisterringly loud and dirty clean continue up the dial and and it works it's way back to what it sounded like on 0. The master volume is blaringly loud on 0 get quieter and fuzzy at around 5 and gets louder and cleaner as you dial it up. It's been tested with 4 diffrent complete sets of tubes, the transformers test good, the ribbon cables are all good, everything tests ok. It first went to Jim Walton in Philly who had it for almost a month and couldn't figure it out and told me to send it to Peavey it went to 3 other shops all with the same answer to send it to Peavey. I know they'll just swap out the boards and it will cost as much as a new amp plus double shipping or they'll say it's toast and I'll be out shipping AND my amp. So I'll keep it until I figure out a solution myself. I've actually had my eyes out for a trashed one I could use for parts, but everyone like me, is sitting on them with the same idea.

I played a 6262 combo last week and really liked what I heard in the brief time I played it. The cleans were great and the lead channel seemed to have more usable gain and didn't get loose/fuzzy like the 5150 did with the gain anywhere past 5.5 or 6. Didn't play it long enough to form an educated opinion yet and it wasn't a head....so I was hearing 2 bugera speakers. I need to hear it thru 8 celestians before I can really give an opinion. But at first glance it seems to be a good answer to those who like a slightly modded 5150 sound.
