is that a "squeel like a pig" type area?
It's in the mountains and a town of about 1,000 people so, yeah... Kinda place where the sheriff or state trooper would pull you over for not being from there.

The guy being in a rural area and also being unwilling to ship is a little unreasonable, but I wouldn't say that directly.

If I were you I'd do all the research. Find out where the nearest UPS Store is; it's probably in Asheville, 52 miles away, which is within his stated driving range. Get the packing and shipping quote from THAT UPS Store over the phone, being sure to get the name of the employee you get the quote from.

If you can arrange it to the point that he just has to show up and drop it off, maybe he'll take it there for you. Send him a Mapquest of directions from his address to the UPS Store. \Fill out the form yourself and email it to him so he can just print it out and take it in, It might be that he can't fill out the form and doesn't want to say so. Again, YOU wouldn't want to say that either. Just say you'll do all the work for him.

Try to not crack any hillbilly jokes though, you might kill the deal. But I bet if you make it easy enough he will take it there. If he would deliver it to a stranger 100 miles away, why not deliver it to an actual business within that range?

Just saying this in case you don't get a volunteer here. It's Christmas and it sounds like everyone here is out of the seller's driving range. Never hurts to have a Plan B.

Just checked and there are 3 The UPS Store locations in Hickory, NC, between 27 and 30 miles away from Glen Alpine. That's not bad, but I'd call them and make sure they will pack and ship something of this size. You never know whether those locations are really part of Joe's Truck Stop and how complete their level of service is. You don't want to assume they'll take it and then he gets there and they won't.

Don't ask me why they might not take it, just trust my advice and verify it yourself.

Isn't that in all of NC?

J/K I've got relatives in NC (Greensboro and Charlotte). I haven't been there since the early '90s.

Just gonna point out here that all the hillbilly and Deliverance jokes are probably not going to endear our NC bros to your cause...
