The guy was obviously an asshat and deserved to be arrested. I realize that he also broke the law by refusing to identify himself, but there is never anything good to gain by being an asshole to a cop.
I had a situation once where the police wanted to ask me questions regarding an altercation involving my step-daughter. After properly identifying myself, I responded in the following manner: "Officer, please don't take this personally because you seem like a helluva good guy, but I really think it's in my best interest to refrain from any further comment on this." to which the officer replied "No problem - we have your contact information and will contact you if we need anything further."
Amazing how far a little common respect goes.
