  • Anyone tried these?

Note I'm not looking for "you should send the neck to be defretted, professionally inlaid, then refretted" responses.

I'm asking if anyone has bought and tried these, and if so, how well do they hold? Did you find them peeling off after intense playing?

I'm thinking of either the diamond cross or one of the Iommi cross sets.

      Then how 'bout these?

These just don't look right - too big IMO.

I thought they looked good for the money, I was going to get some of the inverted cross ones for my Concept, but didn't bother cos I quite like the small dots.
I say go for it, they're not expensive and the guy has good feedback IIRC.

I was more worried about how long they'd last, rather than how they'd look.

I can't help but think that the first time you do some wicked bends, that shits gonna roll up like a tootsie roll. Who knows. It's not a lot of money and if it doesn't work out, we'll have something to laugh about!

I prefer the Iommi style crosses. Upside down of course.

That's what I thought, although I don't know what a "tootsie roll" is. But I thought they'd lift off the fretboard easy - I mean think of the sweat and crap that comes out on the fretboard.
              I wouldn't think they'd last more than a month.
But he seems to sell them okay, so who knows.

That's my primary concern, the lifting off. I mean, yeah for $20 I don't expect them to last as long as real inlays, and if I use the guitar live, no one's going to know they're fake.

If they're thin enough to escape the string's travel on bends, then all I have to worry about is my nails dragging them.

Screw it, I'm going for it. What have I lost but $20 and some time? Lord knows I hve no dignity left

I wish they made a block inlay, the last set I bought were fubar in a few days. Not the same guy so I don't know how these would hold up.

Fuck it, I'm in too. I just got the deer heads, I'll slap 'em on my black ke3(moded righteously). We ought to post our stickered up fretboards. If they suck it's fully removable, right ?

Newc, I had some of the Sharkies before and they are good quality. Only draw back if you are putting them over dots is that if you press too hard when putting them on, you'll have the outline of your dot in the new vinyl.
You can probably get around that by putting a piece of scotch tape over the dot first, to "fill" it or "level" it before the vinyl Crosses.

I also made my own Black vinyl sharkies before, to cover up the offset dots on a PS-4 neck. (I'm a lefty, and they looked stupid cause they were on the bottom of the board)
The vinyl I used held up very well and you cant even really feel it either.

I kinda like those Hetield "Coiled Snakes" and the Hammett "Eye of Horus."
I think the "Eye of Horus" inlays look like the heiroglyphics from the Iron Maiden "Powerslave" album cover, and they'd be fuckin sweet on a Dave Murray or Adrian Smith type tribute guitar.
Dont steal my idea any of you bastards!!!
