All I'm trying to do is back up my songs to CDR. About 10% into backing up ONE song, I get "Track number error" and "Function failed". I can't ask on the VS site because I get "page cannot be displayed" everytime I log on. I'm gonna try backing up via ZIP later this week, but IIRC, the VS2400 or VS2480, which I wanna upgrade to, can't read ZIP discs. Several CDR's later and still no difference.
I cannot find the main error message in the manual, though the second suggests my hard drive is heavily fragmented or faulty. I even thought I could escape this by exporting a song to another partition in order to backup, but the POS wouldn't have it. You can't even back up one song at a time.
So here's what I'm gonna try:
1) Backup via ZIP, using "song copy playable".
2) Recover onto my VSR880
3) Backup the VSR880's hard drive to CDR's (unless that's also fucked)
4) Take the VS1880 apart, clean the input trims from the inside (which is what I wanted to do in the bloody first place)
5) Reformat the VS1880's drive
6) Recover my songs via CDR again.
The reason I've always been able to backup via ZIP is because you don't need a CD burning image to do it. There is clearly something wrong with the hard drive, and I have no intention of losing 6 years' work.
I've read thru the PDF manuals for the VS2400/VS2480 and they both accept MTP type VS1680/1880 files, just means I'll have to import 1 track at a time, then remix because they have 4 band EQ, not 3. I don't know if I can find another HD for my VS1880. If my VSR880's HD is compatible, I may be able to use that in my VS1880.
