I find it somewhat easier to write down guitar or bass stuff I come up with on PC rather than trying to flesh it out fully on the strings/wood. It allows me to place each individual note without having to remember the previous string of notes.
To me it's the same as writing it on paper and faster than making tons of scratch tracks.
Plus you can play around with the instrument voices and stumble across something you never thought of before.
I've got music/notation software that's older than dirt - Noteworthy Composer, for one - and I've got 2 1TB drives to store plenty more

This will create funky jazz solos, etc. Tooooooo time consuming for me. Seems like it would be good for a singer. You can buy patches and upgrades for it so it is never supposed to be obsoleteComment
