Idea for Sandman

I cant find the thread where you were asking about what we wanted to see when we logged into the JCFonline and I have an idea. What about a section called "JCF-BS"? It seems there are some of us that don't really care for ebay. If we have something laying around that we don't want or need anymore can we have a BS section to trade off or sell something if it isnt guitar related? Like a mint 89 - 93 mustang repair manual etc.

It may be something to think about for platinum members only. It could also muck up the rest of the forum as well, then I start thinking... We already fight like hell on here and talk about all kinds of shit besides guitar, what about a little something for the people here that trust each other and would like to do business with? It will also give liquidity to pay platinum memberships.

Money is kind of tight these days what do you guys think?

Yup, Books is one thing that comes to mind. I have some "like new" clear Euro parking lights for a 89-early 90's chevy pickup. I put them on and didn't like them so I took them right back off. they are still sitting in the garage. There has got to be some cool shit from across the pond also

I was thinking about this also. It sounds cool but I could see it getting out of hand real fast. Im thinking that the admins have enough crap to deal with. But I guess its up to them.

Lets talk about what you were thinking about? If admin were to allow it what rules would you think should be in place? Would there be more people go platinum? would it be better than just going into the platinum lounge and talking politics or toying with a guitar generator?

I could see it getting out of hand also but there are a lot of you guys that has been here forever and will be here forever. I think you guys would be great to wheel and deal with. You have to admit we come up with some dumb shit just to talk about, it may give us a new sense of interest.
How many of us need a Cell phone ASAP? There has to be a way to make it work.

Edit: there would have to be a way to isolate people from just coming in to scam members or just to sell crap and take advantage of people.

I would be all over it. My wife and I have closets full of stuff to unload

As for potential scamming. Speaking for myself I'd be wary of selling to, or buying from new / non-established members on the board regardless of their PL membership status. I think most of us have been burned by ebay and paypal at least once, and I thus our cautiousness when dealing with new / non-established members will be enough to police potential scamming.

I doubt people are going to come to a private auction site, pay for platinum membership, and then work to establish themselves with the forum just so they can scam people in the auction house. Besides, ebay and PlayerAuctions make it easy enough for scammers to steal $$ from people.

I've been thinking about this after I saw the original post. I could definitely see it working but only if we could come up with a way to make it safe from scammers. I thought of the way the regular classified used to be set up (100 posts and be here for a certain length of time) but the only way it really could work would be Platinum Members only or a more strict version of the old way.

Second Idea:

Or maybe have it in tiers. Items under a certain price can be used by anyone who isn't a Junior Member(100+ Posts) or has been around for a certain amount of time (3 months? More for people who don't post much but have been here for a while). The higher tier (More expensive items) could be Platinum Member only for posting but anyone can view and offer (Like the current classified section). That way, if a scam happened it would not be much money plus you would have to put in the time to make 100 posts, which would scare away scammers looking to make a quick buck or they would have to pay money.

Edit: Maybe we could come up with some kind of feedback system that's not as dumb as Fleabay. It would obviously take a while to get going but it could help a lot with figuring out if someone is reliable. Kind of like that the Feedback area.

Well, there's a couple of ideas. Let's hear more. I really like this idea.

i know that some of you guys are tripping over shit that you wish would be gone and I know vitaminG in Australia has some cool shit that would be a hell of a conversation piece here in the USA. We could keep the prices down because we could just use money orders

The problem I see is the first time someone gets something that doesnt meet with their expectations and theres a problem. More chances for ill will among friends. And then there's the problem of people coming here just to sell stuff when its a guitar forum. I'd like it in a perfect world but there are lots of details that would need to be worked out.

Well, its worked out pretty well so far with guitars and gear, right? I think most of us here would do the right thing if there was a problem, just like we have in the past.

This does sound like an interesting idea, me personally - I don't have anything to sell. It sounds like an impulse buying section, which is cool. I'm willing to bet that the selections would be varied enough to keep it interesting. What that means is I'd read the section if it were to be made. I guess I'm a rarity but I've never had a problem with paypal or ebay, but then again I've only made about 20 transactions. I also had a great experience buying from the JCF classifieds, so I think it's a good idea(certain restrictions would be reasonable to expect).
