it's probably Midsomer, they would allow something like that to happen, no matter how much gets killed, the town is always filled with people"There is nothing more fearful than imagination without taste" - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

The best thing is that they tend to forget to take all the fruity stuff off these vehicles, even though they should. Apparently someone in the group bought a Chieftan tank and when they got it back to the shed, they found it had still got the 360 degree sooper-dooper nightvision turret thingy on, which only cost, ooooh, X million pounds (back when it was hot news), but which apparently should have been removed when the vehicle was decomissioned. The MOD don't want it back, it's old shit to them, but it's far superior to any night vision stuff Joe Public could ever get hold of.
Alas, all guns are totally FUBAR, there is no way any of those are being put back into service. I think the barrels may even be taken off some. The machine gun on the Ferret is a machined replica (ie. a pole with some holes drilled in!)
My brother got a visit from the MIB, advising him that he had some unlicensed bits on a vehicle, evidently aircraft in the vicinity were being targetted and locked by some guidance system they were frigging about with in the shed, causing panic in non-exercise situations. I think they helped "de-activate" it there and then.
Good job his name isn't Hussein, the first he'd have known would have been when a Tomahawk nudged in the front door!
Prices - Second World War stuff - expensive. German WW2 stuff - FUCKING expensive. A Tiger shell, rusted to fuck, will cost you the best part of a million pounds. Spend another 2 getting it running. Painful, considering how many were left lying around in 1945, they used them as range targets on Salisbury Plain for many years, and flogged a load of Panzer IVs to the Israeli army in the 50s.
Incidentally, anyone out in Eastern Europe who has a forgotten pile of old German shite in their back yard, ever since their Grandad popped the crew on the retreat from Russia, and about which no-one talks, please get in touch. I will swap lots of guitars for it! (This is not as unlikely as it may seem. Apparently one bloke had a "bunker" in his grandad's back yard which he was forbidden to go near, and which was never talked about. On grandad's death, they opened the hatch to this bunker and found it was the turret of a Panzer, which was completely buried)
US Willys Jeeps trun up regularly in barns in France, where they have sat since 1944, so regularly that they are no really exciting event.
Post war British stuff (1950's to 1980's) - not a great deal. The Ferret was basically a shell when he got it, a few hundred quid. Spent plenty of time restoring it, not a great amount of cash, largest outlay was silly shit like rear light lenses etc. Engines in the Alvis stuff tend to be Jaguar 4.2 straight 6's, straight out of an XJ6 for example. (I had to keep a close eye on my old toy to make sure it didn't become a donor!)
I think a Scorpion (which are still on active service) costs about 5K, which is fuck all, really!
Had some hassle when trying to register it for road use because the DVLA twats want all the history of vehicle, which the MOD naturally won't give out - national security and all that, but they got round them after a while. Tracked vehicles over certain tonnage can't be used on the roads, so a low-loader transporter is essential. (I think they are OK driving the Scorpion half-track APC about, but anything above has to shifted by truck)So I woke up,rolled over and who was lying next to me? Only Bonnie Langford!
I nearly broke her back
