So I was tuning our piano and took a couple of shots.

It's upright Stanley, made in Canada, from the end of 19th century.
Very very heavy, maple construction I think, it has a metal concert piano harp. 88 keys.
Doesn't sound like a typical upright piano at all. Very clear and rich sound, bright but has a full tone, incredible rich overtones due the awesome metal harp. The low keys sound massive and have a great "growl". Sounds very loud but when played gently the dynamics are supreme. Sounds better than most today's concert pianos.
We keep a couple of glass jars willed with water inside of it so the wood wouldn't dry.

        Nice!

My father has a Steinway upright, which I grew up with.
Since I live in an appartment I got myself a digital piano, the Yamaha Clavinova CLP-170, which plays and sounds just fine for what it is. And I can play it whenever I want (mainly during the night ).

                Haha!

                Nice piano there indeed!
I'd be tempted to strip it and use the wood to cut some guitar bodies. But then again I'm an asshole who does shit like that.

In all seriousness, it's always nice to have a piano in the house. I grew up with one in my parent's house. Unless you're concerned about getting some particular brand name, pianos are easy to come by. I could pick up 5 or 6 upright pianos for FREE off Kijiji at any given time. People just want to get rid of them. It's ridiculous. The problem is, they weigh a fucking ton. I know firsthand because I've helped move them. Not fun.

Here's a couple shots of my 1977 Steinway Model M:

Here's how it sounds if you don't mind some classical (hey, it's a Steinway, what did you expect?)

yup, it's great when there's an event/party in the house and people gather around the piano and start playing and singing... just like in Woody Allen movies.

they weigh a fucking ton. I know firsthand because I've helped move them. Not fun.
I know but what's even bigger headache than trying to move them is the tuning process. Now that takes some patience. Specially with old pianos which haven't been tuned for years.

Thanks, yeah I actually grew up playing that same piano well before I started playing guitar. I finally convinced my parents they should let me have the piano seeing as they never played it. Now my kids are learning to play on it.

Endrik, are you what we, in the UK, would term "upper class"?
