  • Snowed in.

Well then, a white Christmas we didn't have, but it had been freezing for a couple of weeks now and people in my country were elated because of the possibility of there finally being able to ride the famous "Eleven cities" skate marathon again in over 15 years.

But when I got to bed yesterday night I saw them: snowflakes. I looked out of the window and went "Wow, I'd almost forgotten how beautiful this looks"

But when I woke up this morning I was surprised at how dark it still was, when I took a look through my roof windows I was shown the answer to why. Almost a foot of snow. And it's still coming down as we speak. Coupled to the fact that the weather forecast predicted artic temperatures, which means that this snow won't be going anywhere for the next couple of days meant that I have to take action.

I have cancelled going to work, since the roads will be dangerously slipperry. I have to get supplies at the nearby shop on foot and prepair myself for being snowed in for a couple of days.

It DOES make for beautiful scenery though.

The view outside my window, as you can tell, it DOES look beautiful.

Interesting to see a rural area with streetlights... They don't do that here.

I just spent an hour and a half shoveling the driveway so the car could reach the garage.

This is the second time I have ever seen this much snow where I live, in my short life. The first time being only a few weeks ago! Never had a winter as this one before.
You took too much, man. Too much. Too much.

It's only one within a half a mile range.

Beautiful countryside there, it looks ideal for some cross country skiing or perhaps some downhill and hockey. I miss the winters I had as a boy, now that I've moved to GA.

We had a snow storm a month ago, right now there's no snow but the temperature is at least 5 degrees below zero celsius constantly

We've had around 20 degrees below freezing over here for a couple of days, and yes, the roads get dangerous. You have to be really careful - especially if you're driving on studless tires.

I think I remember the winter of 1977-78 being like that in the Rhineland Pfalz... first an inch or two (2-5cm) of ice, then 6 inches (15cm) of snow, then another 8 inches (20cm) the next day and then bitter cold.

I think nothing moved for two days, and for Germany, that is saying something.

And I miss going to the Bäckerei and the Metzger, too...

I miss snow. The last good snow storm we got was probably 4 years ago. Every time there's snow forecasted we are just south of the ice/rain line on the radar. It's frustrating for sure.

I wouldnt mind getting snowed in once or twice this year, its been a while.

Pssh. That's standard fair here. It snowed approximately one and a half feet over the last day or so and it was -55C (-67F) with the windchill on Saturday and -40C without.

One time it blizzarded during school and we got snowed in until 8:00PM. It snowed up to 3-4 feet in less than 3 hours in some areas. The next day was the only snow day I ever had. Then the day after I had to walk home from school; it was -45C without windchill and still 3 feet of snow on the path in a couple spots. I actually got stuck a couple of times. Fun stuff!
