  • Guy wants to trade his BMW for my bike.

I have my 89 Suzuki Intruder up for sale. A guy emails me asking if I'd be interested in a trade for his 1993 BMW 535i. He says it has brand new tires, brand new performance cat-back exhaust, no rust, no issues whatsoever, leather interior, 125k miles.

    What say the JCF bros?

Go look at it and make sure the title is clean.
If you like what you see, go for it.

He's gonna bring it around on thursday and take a look at my bike. Yes the title is clean. We don't seem to have title issues in Canada.

What the hell would you do with a bike in the snow?

Sounds good to me, if the car looks and runs good. I am a BMW fan.

Hit up a BMW forum or two and see if you can find any 'usual' troubles with that vintage 535, and look over those areas real close... BMW parts are expensive even for the old ones.

I would, especially if it is in the condition he says it is....even though BMW parts are expensive...

I'll second the suggestion to check owner's forums. As noted, parts are expensive.

Go for it Paul. As long as it runs good thats a no brainer.

If it has an aftermarket exhaust on it then he may have done other mods to it as well, so that would be a good question to ask. If he says no then make sure to check for signs of common mods like scratches around the factory intake bolts. Also, if you get the chance you might check the plugs to look for signs of nitrous use. I think very white plugs are a sign of a prolonged lean condition, sometimes meaning N2O.

Maybe I'm paranoid, but those are the two ways a car dealer busted me years ago when I took my car in for service.

I didn't think to ask but....
Paul.... what Intruder to you have and is it stock? What are the details. If its a tricked out minty big motor Intruder I would have second thoughts. If its a stock 600-750cc it would be gone in a flash. Those 5 Series Beemers are nice.

It's a super minty, low mileage 750 with custom bars, forward controls, custom bullet taillights, backrest delete. Not outrageously modded, but a few tasteful changes.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. I'll probably check out some owners forums, and see what I can find out about the 5 series.
