it's in human nature to look for answers which could explain the existence of everything that there is... many find it in fiction like religion... many rely on science which could be fascinating to many and help them to get away from everyday troubles

ok I read this article briefly... I don't know if it's true or not but it's far from being absurd... light consists of photons... physical elements... just like we and everything around us consists of physical elements... we may think that we don't feel air either but we know it's very real and physical and connected to us... the chemical elements in our bodies or in our furniture are placed more densely than in air... or light. It's all relative... from our "amateur" point of view air or light isn't much of a materia but from another point of view it is... from a bigger picture or smaller... so if we are a hologram, it may not look like we are a matter from some point of view far far away but we definitely see ourselves as a matter. This hologram idea seems absurd to many because people can't see themselves as a light because light for them usually is insufficient as a materia. But light actually is one of the evidences which prove the existence of materia. If we were bazillion times smaller, light and it's physical presence would seem like a very big deal. It's all relative... depends where you are looking at this. If we are a light then I don't see much difference from the idea that we are not, we are still a mess of physical elements, photons or not, which are placed with different density and structure in different places.

If that theory had a refracted Floyd I'd be all over it.
          750xl, 88LE, AT1, Roswell Pro, SG-X, 4 others...
Stilletto Duece 1/2 Stack, MkIII Mini-Stack, J-Station, 12 spaces of misc rack stuff, Sonar 4, Event 20/20, misc outboard stuff...

Why do I still want MORE?

I agree with Mark. I was thrusting myself into astronomy and all this space-time theory and all that until high-school when I started wondering, look at the billions of dollars spent for all this. Wont that money help out millions who cant get even a gallon of water everyday? Guess how much it costs to transport a gallon of water to the moon. $10,000!

Ok, space research is useful until they launch communication satellites. Beyond that, its a waste. They have been building the space station for what a decade? They have 600m long detector? WTF?? How much money would have been spent on that?? At the end of the day, I want to live my life everyday and not wonder what happens tomorrow or what happened yesterday.

                Holofuck!

                  When physicists drop acid....

Those who want to criticize space research should consider that when they log onto the Internet with their computer, or talk on their cellphone, or warm something up in the microwave, that those are all technologies generated by space research. Just because you can't see the practical applications doesn't mean there aren't plenty of them.

Still, this hologram universe theory takes me back to the 70s, getting stoned and hearing someone come up with the "Our universe is just an atom on a giant's skin" spiel. In other words, someone got stoned and has enough knowledge to make a plausible argument for his stoned idea!

That's a VERY shortsighted view. Most of man's most important technological advancements have ,directly or indirectly, their origin in space and advanced physics research.

Better pacemakers, dialysis machines, CAT scans, MRI scans, water purification, smoke detectors, better foods, better braces and countless other stuff. And that's things that are directly from 'space travel'.

The indirect/physics part of space research has an even broader impact, since it effects the way science thinks. Quantum physics is therein closely related to a more general form of metascience, which benefits all of humanity.

Research is needed, and if you ask me they need to get MORE budget.

Let me ask you. Where do you think they're gonna find THE green energy solution that could ultimately save our planet and maybe even allow our species to populate other planets? I'll put my money on research like this.
You took too much, man. Too much. Too much.

yeah, I know I was acting like an illiterate prick in that post. Being a software engineer holding a masters and my brother a Phd holder writing papers and attending conferences, I know how invaluable research is. those countless hours I've spent doing research on my thesis... But sometimes the astro-physicists take it too far and it makes me wonder if its all worthwhile at all.
