thats the exact response I would have gave. Its happening somewhere else right now as well. She should not have been naive and made sure the odds were in here favor before she approached the guy. He could have been a wacko like the Canadian on the greyhound bus that carved the other passenger up. Would have been cool as hell if she would have had a taser.

I doubt he said why he wanted to see the manager. She probably walked up thinking he paid for something that didn't get bagged up. Managers can't approach every customer with a drawn taser.

We'd all like to think we'd react fast to help, but you never know what you'd do until confronted with the reality. Even the OP had an excuse - he could have shut the cash register and run to her aid, his customers would surely understand, and if not, fuck 'em.

Not to knock him, just saying that every person who failed to act probably had something going through their mind that stopped them. So don't judge them when you didn't do anything either.

To follow up what Lerx said, any of you watch 20/20 last night? It was all about surviving disaster. An expert said only 10 % of people wouild know what to do, and then do it, when faced with a disaster (building fire, plane crash, etc). 10 % do the wrong things, and 80% just shut down, their brains unable to process what is happening.

This cuts a little to close to home. My mother is an evening services manager at a supermarket and has had a few wacko's come through the shop, but nothing like this thankfully. Theres a security guard stationed there from dusk I think but still it irks me to hear of such shit. I live very close by so I'd be tearing up after the guy and all the info I can get for the cops etc.

                  Fuckin sucks to hear mate!

Speaking of security guards at stores, around here they are invariably elderly, small, and well, I'll come right out and say it: they just aren't that intimidating. I can't imagine that they could do much, especially if (like the guy I'm thinking of at my local Stater Brothers) they hang out outside watching the parking lot.

just got back from the cop shop, duty manager (person it happened to) gave me a call earlier asking if i'd go in and give a statement i said sure thats cool.

i asked the cop if they got him, and he said "yeah we know who it is, he's a local" cop also said atm he's thinking up charges before he lays em and said i might have to go to court as a witness if the dude contests the charges which he said is unlikely cause he has 5 statements already and CCTV footage BUT he only has the guys face on camera, the incident happened just off camera which sucks.

Yeah, that was discussing the possibility of armed passengers intervening. And I do think people are more likely to unfreeze and act with a firearm than with their bare hands when faced with a psycho assaulting someone.

I am going to start a shitstorm now with my post so get ready...

Edited to add: When you walk into a above mentioned situation you really dont know whats going on.

If I see two people of familiarity meaning like a boy friend, girlfriend fighting. Its a domestic dispute I mind my own business.

She made a poor choice in her boyfriend now deal with the consequences. My dad does not show up at my Mom's work and smack her around.

I know this guy who lost all his front teeth because when he was leaving a bar he saw what he thought was some guy mugging or beating up a woman. He went to help and got all his front teeth knocked out when the guy assualting the woman picked up a rock.

Found out later after the cops and everyone showed up the woman was a prostitute and robbed the guy. The guy was trying to get the money back and freaked out when he saw the guy I knew coming up because he thought he was backing up the "Ho robbery" so he picked up a rock and smashed him in the face.

A new set of front teeth is expensive sometimes even if you have insurance its a hassle to get the "Proper" replacement grill. Is a Ho worth your grill dawg?

So my point is if I see a very old lady getting assualted by someone much younger I will do something about it. If I see some couple in their 30's yelling at each other about this and that and the guy puts the smack down on her I am going to mind my own business unless of course she is getting stabbed or her head stomped into the curb like on American History X.

You really dont know what happened when said situation is occuring that you just walked into.

Ron one of the security guards is exactly that! But most are young guys that still don't even scare me. The point is they are there, which would scare off most dickheads around here.

If someone was actually trying to maim someone else I MIGHT step up.

I had an aquaintance several years ago that saw a man mugging a lady on the street. He stepped up to the guy and a fight broke out. Come to find out the guy had a knife. The guys back gets hurt in the fight. He's now on permanent disability and the guy that I knew has to pay this guy for the rest of his life.

So, try to help someone and end up having wages garnished for the rest of that useless shits life. This is why I want to get my CHL. Someone pulls a deadly weapon on me and it's game on. Dead people don't sue.
