  • Best Buy - Alcatrazz

I was picking up a WASP greatest hits cd last night and then decided to see what Best Buy had in their AC/DC collection when I stumbled across a misplaced copy of a re-release of Alcatrazz's Disturbing the Peace from 1985 or whenever. They didn't even have an ID card in there for Alcatrazz.

This is one of the few remaining casette tapes I still keep that I hadn't converted to cd. Vai's playing was so fresh back then and there were some kick ass songs on that record as well with Graham Bonnett singing.

I had no idea you could get this stuff still on cd at a place like Best Buy, but I was like fuck yeah I'm buying this.

Edit: And this particular Best Buy location just opened like 2-3 months ago, I should have stopped to thank whoever ordered that nearly 25 year old obscure album for the cd stock.

I love coming across a find like that. Especially when it's something you've always wanted, but kept putting off really going to town on a search like on eBay or all over the web. Just happening upon it in a store by accident is such a nice surprise.

A buddy of mine must have replaced Vai the following year. I have an album produced in 1986 featuring Shreveport native Danny Johnson on guitar. Last I heard, Danny was playing guitfiddle with Steppenwolf.

Yeah, DTP was Vai's only album with Alcatrazz, sandwiched in between the Yngwie era and Danny Johnson.

          Pretty cool find!

I am still looking to stumble on some old Armored Saint or Anthrax fistfull of metal in a shop. Pretty elusive.

What's with all the out of print "letter A" bands?

some people get the letter "A" confused with "assilicious" so they think it is homoerotic - therefore they don't reissue "A" albums, and stores refuse to stock them because they are fearful of being fucked in the "A".....or so i was told, anyway.

larz, that is an awesome find!!!! i have been looking for that CD forever!!!! congrats!
            GEAR:

              cool find.

gotta love God Blessed Video and Will You be Home Tonight, those are great tunes and regularly in my iPod playlists.
the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives

I remember one time I bought an obscure CD during the summer and the guy selling it to me said "That's a rare one. Even for here". It was used and was sold to the shop by someone who also sold a bunch of other rare albums. I never thought I'd find it so I put it at the bottom of my list due to it's strangeness and that I didn't think I'd ever find it. But I went into the store and there it was for 10 bucks.

With an opening line like that, I was looking for a much better punchline

Yes, it was the same band, but that tune was from when Yngwie was the guitarist.

I really dig "Wire and Wood" and Vai's "Lighter Shade of Green" instrumental.

How'd you like to be the guy that replaced Malmsteen and Vai in that band. No pressure, really.

                              That would be Danny Johnson
