Must be the civilian M9. :ROTF: I'm not the biggest fan of the Beretta (I'm a SIG whore if you can't tell) but apart from the problems I mentioned above, there's nothing wrong with it. It's accurate and I've fired it with mud and snow in the receiver. That's good enough for me.

But if I had it my way...SIG P226 all the way.

And Glock's are great guns. Very few moving parts = less chance of mechanical failure.

I have had a Beretta M9 (92FS out here in the civilian world) myself for around 18 years. Its a great 9mm and the military did well choosing it as their sidearm I believe. There are no differences between the civilain and military version that I'm aware of except for the choice of finishes out in the civilian world, Stainless or Brunitron as Beretta calls it. The only difference is where they are made. Berettas were made in Italy but once they got the US Military contract they started making them in Ackokeek, Maryland (hope I spelled that correctly). The Italian made ones command a little more premium than US made but I don't believe there is any functional difference in the two simply a collectibility thing. And yes, I'd like to also pick up a Sig P226 myself, just becasue and not to replace my Beretta. Another one that feels surprisingly good to hold is the Browning Hi-Power. Yep, a 70 year old 9mm! Of course I'm also a fan of some big bore collector guns such as the 44 Automag and the Wildey .475 Wildey Magnum Those ytwo are tops in my collection. I've always wanted an ACOG site for my AR-15 but couldn't spend the $ on it when there are so many other guns I still want.

I was only off by one letter, not bad. Knew I could count on you for the right spelling Ron Of course I got the important words right. Wildey and Automag

If you want an AR, the Bushmaster XM15 is a very good kit. I've never had a problem with a Bushmaster. They're much higher quality than brands like DPMS and the price isn't too rediculous.

I'm not a fan of the M4 platform at all. However, that site Strangletooth linked to is a great resource to answer any questions you might have.

When you're buying a kit, make sure you get a heavy barrel and that it's free floating. Shorter barrels are cool and all, but honestly, a 16" barrel or longer is the way to go. If I had it my way, I'd have two 5.56's...an HK 416 with 14.5" barrel for CQB to medium range and a Bushmaster XM15 with a 20" heavy barrel for medium to long range. Unless you need a CQB weapon, the longer barrel is the way to go in my opinion.

Let these other guys tell you what's up, though. Everyone has their own opinions.

Here's what I'm running right now for my AR.

                    It's a LMT Lower with a LaRue 16in upper, and a TA11F ACOG.

I've taken here to a range a few times and she will shoot MOA all day long. Freaking accurate as hell with a "combat" sight. Thing is she's heavy. I'm going to put together another and try to keep the weight down.
Come and get one in the yarbles, if you have any yarbles, you yunick jelly thou!

What MOA? How far apart is the grouping at 100m? I'm sure with that ACOG and the 16" barrel it's 1 MOA, but our rack-grade M4's (same performance as any kit) are rated for 2 MOA which is balls.

I'll have to snap a pic of my M4 with my M203 40mm grenade launcher, Surefire tac light, and PAQ-2 IR laser. Damn thing weighs almost as much as an M249 SAW!

Nice barrel, by the way. Quick question...is that a popup sight on the top rail?

I was just looking at the Colts out there. There is alot to choose from. Maybe a LE6920 to get me started. I will be honest and say that I dont have the time to search reviews and do the research to build my own. Not that it isnt a great hobby or anything, but I only shoot occasionally. After 20+ years of military service I got really burned out on weapons. Now that I have been retired 5 years I am getting back to the old habits slowly.

Bset? I would think that would be Armalite but its not going to be cheap. I have a Colt, 16" heavy barrel, 1 in 7 twist. I'd like to get an ACOG for it as I said before but for the amount of money those are I start thinking I can use that money towards Wildey or Automag hand guns/accessories or even a USA Jackson Oh yeah, I almost forgot, the Armalite can be had in .308 but damn are their prices up there

I've read here and there that m14's are finding their way back into service for a number of reasons. Is that an option? Good luck BTW.

It's shooting quarter sized groups, this is sitting at a bench, but with no support. I'm sure using some shooting bags, I could get that tighter.

Since we're at the range I'll shoot a couple of tight groups, then mark them(at the cease fire), then just have fun shooting prone/standing, so that's all the other holes you see. I don't get all crazy with trying to bench shoot sub MOA groups.

The barrel is a LaRue SS chambered in 5.5.6 Wylde 1/8 twist, eats all ammo. Those are Troy Back Up Iron Sights.

Sharpshooters use the M14 EBR which is a match-grade M14. Otherwise, nope...it's all M4's unless you're in the 75th Ranger Regiment or a Special Forces Group. They get HK 416's. Go figure.
