  • Van Halen jam named after TV SHOW! WHAT IS IT, DRIVING ME MAD

    Hey guys,

I saw this old footage on youtube ages ago, but can't find it to save my life now!

It's EVH jamming it up with some talkshow's houseband. The houseband guitarist was a pretty well known douchebag guitarist as well.

    -Show was from the 80's

-I remember reading the jam was actually named as a song after that, and was named after the studio the show was in.

    HALP!
You took too much, man. Too much. Too much.

He did Panama with Letterman back in the day...

    That it?

NM, was it with Roth or Hagar? Smith from SNL in the 80's?

Thanks man, but those weren't it.

It's just Eddie and the houseband from the talkshow. No vocals either, just jamming for a couple of minutes on a tasty riff.

He's wearing a blue shirt and a typical 80's blazer/suit jacket. Pretty short hair too. I think his shoes were white.

Was it him and GE Smith and the Saturday Night Live band? I remember that Valerie was the host of that show and she introduces him.

          WOOHOOOOOOOOO THAT'S IT!

GE Smith was indeed the name!

Name of the jam/song is: Stompin' 8H

"Ed later "loaned" it to Steve Lukather for an album of his, and borrowed it back later for "Dirty Water Dog" on "VH3". To date, I have never seen it on ANY bootleg, though I wish someone would throw it on one. It's an awesome jam."

          THANKS DUDE!!!!!!! Seriously!!!

here's the vid I was talking about: check it out!

I knew the answer to GOR question soon as I saw this thread.

I also saw it live and taped it. They had skit "Dinner at The Van Halens" with both Ed and Val..with the help of roadies. I think Kevin Nealon was one of the roadies.

That was a damn good jam tho..I remember I really enjoyed it at that time (me big fanboy). Better than the "Panama" jam with Paul Shaeffer on Letterman IMO.
