My favorite 80's tapper was Akira though. Here's the title track from his solo album "Tusk of the Jaguar" which I need to track down a CD copy of somewhere. It was so wierd and quirky, kind of like Flexable era Vai.

    +1 for Akira - start 0:45 solo at 4:00 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yi2Nl...eature=related

How about these guys , solos at 2:05 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iURWJEmeBI

Mike, i thought Blue Murder came out in the 90's, but checked and it slid in there in 89

OK. First, I hope Vito is able to play again with his wrist injury and all. Second, Sykes was awesome. I was amazed at how he picked up Coverdales vocal intonations.
Here we go: solo around 2:20; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y52PJjHXzzI
Solo at 2:48; if you can get through Udo's singing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOp8Zz50f6U

Sykes is the the only reason I can get through Whitesnake's 1987 album. Every solo was mind blowing. I just get sick of Coverdale telling me on every song how he's gonna stick it to some bitch or that said bitch has left him heart broken. Boo hoo get over it ya big sook!!!

Agreed...Sykes' vibrato and bending are just the bomb. He is in complete control.

I really like this old Pantera solo, deff 80's! That's the original lineup as we know it.

If we're talking composed solos, off the top of my head I'd say Skolnick's solo in Practice What You Preach was very close to perfect. He still does a pretty good job with it:

Testament play in Alcatraz, for MTV american. (USA). Practice What you Preach. Not full Music. High Quality.

If it doesn't have to be a "written" solo, I figure this is pretty decent:

SRV RIP. If you want to bring up amazing blues guitarists, how about Jeff Healey (RIP as well) major jam session:

another great with a little help from Phillip Sayce:

Isn't it sad how the greats always seem to be taken from us way to soon.

Van Halen - I'll Wait. I was never that crazy about the keyboard/synth thing in the whole song, but the guitar solo in it has always done something for me!

I don't think there's a video for it, but Lynch's solo in Kiss Of Death kills me every time I hear it.

My fave may be Ty Tabor's solo in Summerland. That dude is righteous.

Vito - damn, I miss that dude's playing.

I watched a White Lion concert on MTV back in the day and Vito was spot on and totally kicked ass. The rest of the band..........ugggg.....

Exactly! So many amazing players back then playing on shitty "power ballads" that would've made Styx cringe. No one will ever convince me that grunge killed anything.
